Over the past few months, we have worked with a team of industry experts to develop draft National Occupational Standards (NOS) for an assistant hairdresser and barber role (Notional Level 1). There is now the opportunity to feed back your views on the draft NOS, and share your expertise to help shape these NOS. National Occupational Standards (NOS) are developed by Standard Setting Organisations (SSO) such as Habia, who consult with employers and other stakeholders across each of the UK nations. This consultation process allows any specific requirements to be considered by each nation and the result is a set of NOS that are suitable for use across the UK. NOS do no state who can undertake these procedure or what the required qualification is needed be a practitioner. NOS can be used for developing skills and knowledge, this can include direct transfer into vocational and other qualifications, frameworks for training programmes, measures of workplace competence and influencing job descriptions. See link to the survey in comments below- we’d really appreciate your feedback. You have the opportunity to review each of NOS units. The survey closes on 15th January 2025. We will also hold an Education Forum for Habia Education Members in early January If you want to have a call about the NOS please contact us at [email protected]

Over the past few months, we have worked with a team of industry experts in Scotland to review and develop the SVQ in Spa and Massage Therapy at SCQF Levels 6. There is now the opportunity to feed back your views on the draft SVQs. We are inviting feedback on the revised qualification, we would be interested to hear from employers, Colleges, Training providers, Educators, Awarding Organisations, Practitioners and other stakeholders in Scotland to ensure the qualification structures are fit for purpose. The consultation includes a number of questions, plus we welcome your comments on any related issue. The survey should take about 20 minutes to complete. See link to the survey in our bio - we’d really appreciate your feedback. The survey closes on 15th January 2025. If you want to have a call about the SVQ please contact us at [email protected] The data in this consultation will be collated and shared with approval authorities to provide an evidence-based internal report. Magda and Kasia came up from London to PB North to help share the benefits of ‘Verrify’…… such a great platform to demonstrate you are fully qualified, as there’s many fraudulent certificates out there …so we can promote professionalism and client safety. Colleges and academies were very interested in getting their learners on the platform so they can share with employers when applying for roles, as very often employers find it very confusing when looking at lots of ‘accredited’ certificates, they want to see who has a regulated ‘qualification’ . This platform makes it so easy to show you are fully qualified as your certificates have been fully verified (they check with the awarding organisation) ….they work with all Ofqual regulated Awarding Organisations (AOs) so they can help learners to show they are professionally qualified. Get in touch if you need more information- [email protected]

Be VERY careful ….here’s why…. ….some ‘accreditation’ companies don’t even look at the courses they ‘accredit’ !!! Yesterday at PB we heard another shocking story that someone sent their course to be ‘accredited’ and they very soon got a response back to say yes it was all accredited now. Then they realised they had sent the wrong file to them with the content of the course, by mistake they had sent only the front and back cover with no content- and yet it had been accredited !!! It’s appalling that some so called ‘accredited’ courses have not been even read by the company who accredit them- let alone robustly reviewed - how can this be acceptable? The public are then at risk from those who study these courses as the content can be so poor quality, and also we’re hearing people are wanting a refund as the courses are so poor and they feel very let down, and often angry. We always say- ‘research widely and choose wisely’ as it’s a jungle out there ! ….and we’re sure everyone wants to be the best they can be, to get a regulated ‘qualification’, be insured by a reputable insurance company and then do regular updating. Please….Do.the.right.thing. If in doubt…get in touch with us if you need info about courses, training and qualifications
