Grounded is an architecture and urbanism studio with a unique blend of public and private sector experience.

About us

Grounded is an architecture and urbanism studio that has been established by Chloë Phelps in collaboration with Place Capital Group a development company set up in 2020 to breathe life back into run down council estates. The practice is part of a wider group of companies with expertise in commercial, economic, placemaking and analytical capabilities, who will work together to offer a holistic approach to development and creating resilient cities. The practice has a unique blend of public and private sector experience and offers a range of services to Local Authorities, Housing Associations and Developers beyond those traditionally offered by architecture studios. Grounded will deliver characterful designs and strategies that are backed up by commercial knowledge bolstered by the expertise of the wider Place Capital Group. Grounded has been established on the down to earth implementation experience gained delivering the Croydon Smaller Sites programme, as well as Phelps’ senior roles in the Croydon Placemaking Team and, previously, at architecture practice Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands. Bringing together her experience from each of these roles, the practice will be more than just housing experts, offering services across the master planning, workspace and hospitality sectors as well as providing quality management and delivery advice.
