“Dirty water companies shouldn’t be able to rely on their customers to foot ever higher bills while they line the pockets of their shareholders and leave our rivers brimming with sewage." - Sienna Somers, senior nature campaigner at Friends of the Earth. Everyone, no matter where they live, should have the right to a clean and healthy environment. Agree? Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace UK have teamed up to intervene in a critically important legal appeal over the right to protest, after five peaceful climate activists were handed record-length prison sentences in July this year. Until recently, it was virtually unheard of for peaceful protest to result in jail time. We believe that peaceful protest is an essential part of democracy. Such tactics have been a cornerstone of many historical struggles, from women’s suffrage to the civil rights movement. But our rights and freedoms are being eroded, with UK police arresting environmental protesters at three times the global average. We must protect our rights and civil freedoms, before it’s too late. #righttoprotest #peacefulprotest https://lnkd.in/ePPu2fKK

“This report is yet another stark warning about the growing threat the climate crisis poses to people, homes and communities across the country - with the elderly, disabled and those living in vulnerable areas particularly in danger.”- Alison Dilworth, campaigner at Friends of the Earth. We believe that peaceful protest is an essential part of democracy. Yet our rights and freedoms in this country are being eroded. Research published in the Guardian shows that in the UK, shockingly, the police arrest environmental protestors at three times the global average. Friends of the Earth is calling on the government to repeal the anti-protest legislation passed by the previous government, and is taking a case to the European Court of Human rights to defend the right to protest. https://lnkd.in/d9r88N3W

We welcome the UK's Clean Power 2030 plan today ☀️🍃 A big step towards ditching climate-wrecking fossil fuels and ramping up renewable energy. Communities need green jobs, lower bills and a liveable planet. This plan could be key to make that happen ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ejYe4VeW

"People should not need healthcare because the place they live in makes them sick. People need homes that allow them to thrive and heal. As we face another winter, we need rapid government action for the health of us all." - Dr. Martin V Garcia, GP Trainee The government’s Warm Homes Plan is due to be published in the Spring. It must ensure that low-income households are no longer left to shiver in cold homes with all the negative health consequences that brings. https://lnkd.in/e79H8itp

The needs of disabled people can be overlooked when it comes to conversations about sustainability and green solutions. When their voices are excluded, sustainable 'solutions' can end up creating new barriers. But we can challenge this behaviour and fight for environmental action that uplifts disabled communities and drives change for a greener and fairer tomorrow. ✊ Read more about breaking barriers in the climate movement here: https://foe.uk/xyuzr #DisabilityHistoryMonth #DisabilityJusticeIsClimateJustice

Our homes, lives and livelihoods are increasingly at risk from floods, storms and heatwaves. The government must strengthen its adaptation plan to better protect people and their communities from the growing impacts of climate change. https://lnkd.in/e3apWtCj.

🚨 2024 is set to be the hottest year on record, and the first to breach 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. Globally, emissions are on the rise. Here in the UK, we need a credible climate plan that ensures we deliver on crucial targets. https://lnkd.in/e-CWay_y
