WHAT: 🎬 Creating a stylish brand focused video for Apeksdiving 50th Anniversary, we wanted to include product shots that felt like there was substance behind them rather than purely stylish shots. 🤿 With their long standing heritage being a focus of the video, we set out to present the the products that supported this idea in a subtle way. Emulating a time-lapse, we wanted it to fit with the dark and moody feel of the piece. It made sense to imitate moonlight tracking the sky, with the products taking pride of place. HOW: 🌧️ We set out to shoot the scenes in real coastline environments, meaning we needed to be mobile and adaptable (thanks to the British weather) 💡In the dead of night on a beach in Wales, we rigged the 600D light on the end of a boom pole with a counterweight directly over the camera and swinging it behind the product we were able to create swinging shadows the cast across the product. 🌊 We try to utilise natural elements as much as possible, we could have made this happen in a studio, but we wanted the real textures of nature. Nature is normally a better designer, including imperfection and randomness to scenes that we people normally shy away from. 🪰 It doesn’t come without it’s challenges though. The main thing we didn’t consider was the swarms of flies that our lights would attract... This turned out to be quite an issue, the only way around it was to take breaks and then get the shot as fast as we could before they return WHY: 🎥 Sometimes it works to just make things look nice and stylish, nothing wrong with that... but for videos to stand the test of time it’s important to us to have reasoning behind what we’re doing. In this case it led us down a route that landed us on a great visual hook. Often the full reasoning won’t be obvious to people watching it, but that doesn’t always matter, sometimes the power of a video is not quite knowing why it affects you in a certain way. Kendal Mountain Events Festival was a great opportunity to hear from extraordinary people, carving the way in the outdoor world to create more inclusivity, inspire change and push the boundaries. We heard some incredible speaking events over the course of the weekend, from the likes of Off Piste Ski Trip who are aiming to flip the narrative on the snow slopes and create a more inclusive space for skiiers and snowboarders by introducing more black culture and community. On saturday night, Finisterre were joined by marine biologist and film maker, Inka Cresswell who has recently worked on the new Netflix documentary 'Our Oceans', striving to bring awareness to the connection between global warming and our oceans. On Sunday, we heard from Jasmin Paris, the ultra endurance athlete who is the first woman to complete the Berkley marathon, who has joined forces with Jeev Singh to create 'the green runners' who's ethos is to make change within the running community to reduce carbon footprint in the sport from things like travel and kit choices. The people behind the stories is at the core of why we make our films, encouraging people to get into nature and make a change to the world we live in. It's always so inspiring for us as creatives to hear from them first hand

Over the weekend at Kendal Mountain Events we got witness an impactful talk from Abbie Barnes, from 'Spend More Time in the Wild'. Abbie is an advocate for getting outside, exploring the outdoors and creates films of their adventures over on youtube. They openly shared their struggles with bullying in school and mental health through out their journey, and the fact that nature has always been there for them. Abbie has built a fruitful career from the thing that offered as an escape from the challenges they faced. The talk took place on Saturday afternoon, in which they quoted something that resonated with us..."comparison kills creativity". As creative people, many of us have battled with the woes of imposter syndrome and comparing to other peoples journeys. As a few of us settled into the madness of the festival over the weekend, this was a refreshing reminder that we are often not alone in the things we struggle with, and that the great outdoors has such a significance to a lot of our lives and how we live them. Cheers Abbie, we hope to hear more profound things from you soon!

What a weekend! Frosty snow, amazing films, lots of rain, insightful speakers, more rain, quite a few beers, more films and some cold nights in the van. Our first Kendal Mountain Events was a blast. We got to see our films on the big screen and meet some super people of the outdoors and shred it through some trails. Kendal has possibly the most jam packed programme ever, with people from all walks of life imparting their stories and sharing encouragement of getting out into the great outdoors. We have so many thoughts to share on the what we saw over the weekend, give us a follow on LinkedIn to see all the amazing things we packed into our schedule. Thanks to all who came to see our films and everyone we connected with over the weekend, and big thanks to KMF for featuring us. #kendalmountainfestival #kmf24 #kendalmountainfestival2024 #kendal #lakedistrict #kendalfilm #bristolproductioncompany #filmfestival #outdoorfestival #filmawards #endurance #ultra #cyclingfilm #runningfilm

It's not often we spend so much time worrying about our kit catching on fire... but in Ottery St Mary there is a lot of it around. One of the stranger events we have filmed.. what struck us is how normal it is to the locals, which makes sense when it's literally been going on for longer then anyone can remember. Apparently from before the 1st world war, but no one knows when or why... This was for an upcoming project that's a bit hush hush at the moment (don't tell anyone). But we couldn't help ourselves in sharing a snippet. We're stoked to shoot some equally mad happenings, keep your eyes peeled for when this drops Hope everyones firework nights were a bit safer... careful that fire stuff is awfully hot. Remember this nutter? This time last year, Will Robinson took on the epic (bonkers) challenge of running 200miles around the 500m loop of Queens Square in Bristol. The idea for this ultra challenge evolved from a simple act of humanity, to help a friend get back to nature after a climbing accident that left him wheelchair dependent. Everything about this story has our name written all over, pushing mental and physical boundaries beyond comprehension, encouraging the community to get outside and displaying acts of compassion that restore your faith in humanity just that little extra bit. A will that was unbroken. Introducing ‘Unbreakable Will’ - a film by Friction Collective We’re stoked to announce, a teaser of the film will be showing at this years Kendal Mountain Events Catch it in the The Endurance Session - presented by INOV8 - feat. There’s pain, laughs, exhaustion, tears, suffering, more tears and an incredible feat of determination.
