Wonder what supporting our #BigGive #ChristmasChallenge really means? Here's an example of the extraordinary power of our food, and what our member charities do with it. Last week, we visited Bath Area Play Project (BAPP), a small but mighty charity who create play opportunities for all children - including those with additional needs and disabilities - providing respite for families, and offering vital food support. Caroline, who runs BAPP, shared: “We’re based in the most disadvantaged ward in Bath, so parents often don’t have healthy food. We provide healthy snacks like fruit and yogurt at the nursery, and in the summer, we make smoothies and fruit kebabs for the kids. For parents with food vouchers, we also offer fresh produce, which they love because it helps them provide healthy meals for their families.” We also spoke with one of the mums, who also happens to be a Trustee! She shared how her daughter has thrived at BAPP: "My daughter needs one-to-one support and has been coming to BAPP for years. After my husband passed, it was so important for me to have relationships outside the family, and BAPP provides that. She loves the Saturday sessions, which give her independence and give me time to get things done. She’s built up her confidence and sees this as her little family away from home." We were lucky enough to attend their Play Stars awards, celebrating children’s achievements like building confidence and trying new things - it was an utter joy to witness! Did you know that turkey legs are often thrown away instead of landing on people's plates? 🍽️When you buy a turkey crown, the legs might end up in landfill. Not Field and Flower's though! Thanks to their Leg Up campaign, they'll be sending us 250 pairs of their premium organic turkey legs in time for Christmas. Field and Flower have supported us for a long time and are hugely committed to sustainability and rescuing high-quality good food from waste whenever they can. Their team came to volunteer in our warehouse last week to help us pack up our rescued surplus food and share it across the south west too. Thank you so much for your support!
