We're delighted to announce that TGHAT has joined the Casualty Recorders Network! TGHAT aims to serve as a platform to chronicle and document the human rights abuses against the Tigrayan people in Ethiopia. TGHAT records civilian casualties to commemorate the victims and to bring awareness and visibility to the experiences of civilians who have been affected by the war on Tigray. The organisation uses this information for advocacy for recognition, reparation, and accountability and justice to create an accurate record that can be used for further research and education. In March 2019, #UNITAD started collecting forensic, physical and biological material from mass grave sites in Iraq, noting that such evidence was particularly important for their investigation into crimes under international law. UNITAD’s victim-centred approach to the collection of evidence is welcome. The Investigative Team did not only see its role as an accountability mandate but also supported the State of #Iraq, when possible, in granting reparations measures to victims and survivors such as commemorations and the search for, exhumation, identification and return of remains. In this article, Juliette Rémond Tiedrez highlights UNITAD's mandate and legacy. https://lnkd.in/eiFkmqtJ

Every Casualty Counts (ECC) recently interviewed Casualty Recorders Network (CRN) member Amhara Association of North America to learn more about their work, the challenges of collecting information about casualties in Ethiopia and why they decided to focus on the #Amhara population in #Ethiopia. The Casualty Recorders Network (CRN) was established in 2009. The network currently has over 50 members spread across the globe. CRN members are instrumental in casualty recording in a variety of contexts across the world, to acknowledge the dead and uphold their human dignity by ensuring they are recorded, identified and publicly acknowledged. To highlight the work of the members of CRN, ECC will be conducting interviews with members from different contexts. https://bit.ly/3UP9Zup
