In episode 26 of The Recovery Toolkit Podcast, we hear an inspiring story about the early days of recovery and the courage it takes to keep going, even when the path feels uncertain. Terrified by the idea of total abstinence, this guest tried softer options like acupuncture and aromatherapy. But it wasn’t until attending recovery meetings—where others shared their raw, lived experiences—that things began to change. The story highlights the importance of finding what resonates with you in recovery. It’s not always easy, but seeing others who’ve turned their lives around can spark hope and inspiration. The EPIC Restart Foundation supports people to rebuild a positive life after gambling harm.
About us
The EPIC Restart Foundation is a UK charity providing practical support to empower those recovering from a gambling disorder to positively restart their lives. Gambling addiction devastates lives, and many people struggle to establish or sustain a positive recovery. Poor mental health, depression and anxiety as well as isolation, stigma and lack of confidence all increase the risk of relapse. We believe it is essential to break the cycle of gambling harm and repeated relapse. Our pioneering approach brings together treatment providers, experts in coaching and recovery, and those with lived experience of gambling harm to offer transformational, person-centred support. We offer life changing events, personal development workshops and intensive lived experience mentoring and coaching that inspires and empowers individuals to take action to rebuild their own lives – with the confidence to take personal responsibility for their onward journey of recovery. “The single best thing I have ever done for myself. I have a renewed sense of power over my life, my mindset, and my goals. A genuinely life changing experience.” 2021 Delegate

From isolation to independence: a journey of transformation 💪🏼 "Three months into recovery, I found myself at a turning point. I started surrounding myself with the right people, learning how to manage my depression, and breaking free from isolation. Since then, I’ve joined a football team in recovery, taken up running, and embraced cold-water therapy. These routines have given me the strength—both physically and mentally—that I never thought I could achieve." This story is a powerful reminder that long-term recovery is possible. With the right mindset and support, we can build lives filled with independence, wellbeing, and personal success. Let’s continue breaking the stigma and creating spaces where recovery thrives 💙 #RecoveryJourney #MentalHealthAwareness #OvercomingStigma #LongTermRecovery
