About us
The Energy Institute (EI) is the chartered professional membership body for people who work across the world of energy. Our purpose is creating a better energy future for our members and society by accelerating a just global energy transition to net zero. We do this by: -Attracting, developing and equipping the diverse future energy workforce -Informing energy decision-making through convening expertise and advice -Enabling industry and consumers to make energy lower carbon, safer and more efficient A registered charity, incorporated by Royal Charter in 2003, the EI is licensed by the Engineering Council (UK) to offer Chartered, Incorporated and Engineering Technician status to engineers, and by the Society for the Environment to award Chartered Environmentalist status. We are also unique in granting Chartered Energy Manager status. The EI was set up in 2003 as a result of a merger between the Institute of Petroleum (IP) and the Institute of Energy (InstE). Both Institutes had a proud and distinguished heritage developed over many years supporting their particular energy sectors. Increasingly these sectors have converged, creating an integrated global energy market which has been mirrored by the development of the Energy Institute - established to address both the depth and breadth of the subject. Today , the EI is home to a range of collaborative initiatives, including the G+ Global Offshore Wind Health and Safety Organisation, SafetyOn and POWERful Women. We host the annual International Energy Week, EI Awards, publish New Energy World Magazine and the Energy Barometer, and provide the Toolbox web app helping the energy workforce learn lessons from incidents and get home safe.

🌏#NewEnergyWorld 🌱India’s #biogas revolution Reliance Industries Limited recently announced it will be investing INR650bn ($7.72bn) to establish 500 compressed biogas plants in Andhra Pradesh. With only 106 operational plants nationwide against a target of 5,000, this ambitious project could reshape the industry by boosting confidence, unlocking investments and revitalising wastelands with energy crops. What does this mean for #sustainableenergy in India? And how might it transform rural economies and energy supply chains? 🔗Read more: https://ow.ly/jiJE50Up0Rc

New Energy W🌎#NewEnergyWorld 💬Comment – ‘Ensuring a smart, inclusive and fair energy transition’ The #energytransition isn’t just about technology – it’s about people. As Chloe McLaren Webb of the Centre for Sustainable Energy explains, the UK’s move towards #netzero must include all consumers, especially vulnerable households. CSE’s Smart and Fair research reveals that digital skills, financial stability and energy literacy shape who benefits from smart tariffs and services. Without inclusive solutions, we risk a two-tier energy market. How can we ensure no one is left behind in this transition? 🔗Read more: https://ow.ly/sMrw50Up0NI orld

A new report published today from the National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC) explains how building retrofit can help the UK achieve its net-zero goals whilst delivering health benefits in homes and public spaces. It shows how building retrofit programmes are essential to improving homes and buildings, meeting national net-zero goals and addressing health inequalities. Indoor air quality has a significant impact on health and well-being, with disadvantaged groups facing higher risks. The report proposes solutions to ensure that retrofitting buildings creates healthier environments, avoiding issues with mould and indoor air pollutants. The report concludes with five recommendations for policymakers to embed a systems-based approach in retrofit, including insulation and airtightness, ventilation and air cleaning, and low-carbon heating. This report was led by the Royal Academy of Engineering, in collaboration with CIBSE and IMechE. It is the final report in a major programme of work by the NEPC on infection resilient environments. Good to see proactivity on grid modernisation in today's Clean Power Action Plan from Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This was raised as the top concern in the Energy Institute Barometer member survey published just last week https://lnkd.in/eNxxRsCH The the scale of this challenge by 2030 is massive in infrastructure terms and will therefore also demand a HUGE skills effort between government, industry and professional bodies / training providers such as the Energy Institute. We look forward to playing our role in supporting this. Andy Brown OBE, Juliet Davenport, Tim Pick MBE, Robert Gross Nicholas Turton FEI MCIPR, Lydia Malley
📣 Published today, our Clean Power Action Plan outlines how we're going to reach clean power by 2030. It's the most ambitious reform to our energy system in a generation and represents a new era of electricity planning, building and generation. Part of the Prime Minister’s Plan for Change, it focuses on getting more clean power into, and around our energy system. And outlines how we’re going to reform and speed up the way decisions are made about building and connecting our renewable energy projects to the grid. It will get us off the roller coaster of international fossil fuel markets - protecting consumers and businesses. It also sets out how we will deliver the generation and infrastructure to reach our goal - giving investors the confidence to invest, boosting supply chains and supporting new jobs. AbdulHameed Raji AMEI Interim CEng holds thanks to many people for getting him to where he is today. Growing up his parents powered his home with battery storage, teaching him the importance of clean efficient energy and inspiring his engineering degree. At university, an outreach programme Alumnus spoke of energy and motivated him to pursue a career in the industry. He later met a Young Professional Network (YPN) Lead who introduced him to the EI communities and their volunteers, encouraging his membership of the EI and active involvement as a volunteer. As a member, his mentors through #EIConnect have guided his career and when attending #IEWeek 2023, speakers have inspired him. Ultimately, however, it is AbdulHameed who has propelled himself to where he is, and he still has much more to achieve. Now he’s making strikes at global sustainable development firm Arup solving energy transition barriers and overcoming key problems to help us achieve #NetZero.
