📣 Published today, our Clean Power Action Plan outlines how we're going to reach clean power by 2030. It's the most ambitious reform to our energy system in a generation and represents a new era of electricity planning, building and generation. Part of the Prime Minister’s Plan for Change, it focuses on getting more clean power into, and around our energy system. And outlines how we’re going to reform and speed up the way decisions are made about building and connecting our renewable energy projects to the grid. It will get us off the roller coaster of international fossil fuel markets - protecting consumers and businesses. It also sets out how we will deliver the generation and infrastructure to reach our goal - giving investors the confidence to invest, boosting supply chains and supporting new jobs. Much Awaited News for the UK Hydrogen Sector! Today, Low Carbon Contracts Company has announced the signing of the first three of eleven landmark hydrogen production contracts under HAR1. These contracts are a significant step towards clean hydrogen production, reducing emissions across key industries, and creating jobs and investment opportunities. The Cromarty, Whitelee, and West Wales projects represent first-of-a-kind hydrogen contracts in the UK and will have a combined capacity of 31.8MW once operational. Our CEO, Clare Jackson, shared her thoughts on this achievement: "These signed contracts demonstrate the confidence and commitment of both the Government and industry in building a sustainable hydrogen sector. However, it is crucial that we maintain this momentum and ensure that the remaining eight projects progress swiftly. With full focus in January, we can drive forward these additional projects, which are vital for meeting the UK’s net-zero targets, driving economic growth, and creating jobs. Clean, homegrown power such as solar and wind power is how we protect households from energy price spikes, support skilled jobs and tackle the climate crisis. Last week we unveiled the Clean Power Action Plan - an ambitious set of reforms to make Britain energy secure with clean power by 2030. Since 2010, our energy mix has trended towards clean sources of homegrown power. Accelerating to net zero offers huge opportunities for Britain. That is why making Britain a clean energy superpower is one of the 5 missions of this government. Earlier this year, the Climate Change Committee made 35 recommendations to the UK government to help us get on track to hit our 2030 emissions reductions target. We are already acting or partially acting on all of these recommendations, with more to come - so that we can reduce our emissions and seize the economic opportunities of net zero.
