Energy Transition Zone Ltd
Services for Renewable Energy
Supporting the North East of Scotland's transition to become the Net Zero Energy Capital of Europe
About us
The North East of Scotland has a clear ambition to transform into a globally recognised and integrated energy cluster, focussed on accelerating net-zero through energy transition activities. The unrivalled critical mass of skills, experience and infrastructure, drawing upon 50 years of operating a world class oil and gas sector, means Aberdeen is ideally placed within the UK to deliver a world-leading energy transition zone. ETZ Ltd is a private sector led, not for profit company created to drive forward the vision of transforming the North East of Scotland to become a global leader in energy transition activities and a net exporter of energy transition technologies and skills. At the core of ETZ Ltd is the ambition to deliver the Energy Transition Zone, a purpose-built net zero green space, connected to the coastline and adjacent to the new £350m deepwater harbour development at Aberdeen South Harbour. This 70-hectare space will be a leading-edge catalyst for innovation and high value manufacturing, a centre of excellence for offshore floating wind and other offshore renewables, for hydrogen and for carbon capture and storage.

🎥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐚 High performance robots – such as micro remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) – have the ability to dramatically reduce the cost of offshore wind inspections. And there is another huge benefit; they can also help cut the emissions associated with this work. Operating in the high currents which are experienced close to shore requires a huge amount of testing and validation. With support from the Energy Transition Zone Ltd Challenge Fund, we put seven of our micro ROV systems to the test in a series of equipment validation trails using a specialist facility at The University of Edinburgh. It was a hugely valuable exercise, allowing us to better understand the benefits and performance boundaries of our key systems. You can get in touch with us at [email protected] to learn more about these trials and how we can support your future inspection needs. #EnergyTransition #OffshoreWind #Innovation Jan Stander | Steven Gray | Ventex Studio

ETZ Ltd welcomes energy commitments in Scottish Government Budget New Aberdeen Offshore Wind Hub and additional funding a "positive step" ETZ Ltd Chief Executive, Maggie McGinlay, said: “The decision to locate a new Offshore Wind Hub in Aberdeen is hugely welcome and a positive step toward the North East of Scotland positioning itself as an internationally recognised renewables energy cluster, particularly for offshore wind. We will work closely with the Scottish Government to ensure this Hub and the additional £150 million earmarked for offshore wind supply chain in the coming year are channelled effectively. “The importance of speeding up the planning and consenting of offshore wind projects, so they are commercially available, is vital if Scotland is to emerge as global leaders in this sector. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to locate this new body in a region that has proximity to the vast majority of offshore wind projects in Scotland and is home to the highest concentration of energy supply chain companies in the UK. “Following the UK Government decision to locate GB Energy in the city and the fact a range of the key energy industry and innovation support organisations are already based here, the North East of Scotland is an energy ecosystem without rival and the most attractive location in Europe to invest in low carbon technologies.”

The Association of South East Asian Nations (The ASEAN Secretariat) recently visited the ETZ wind campus, where the Heads of Mission delegation had the opportunity to tour the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and FLOWIC facility. Here they heard from ETZ Ltd about the work that is being done in the region and how it is helping meet Scotland’s net zero ambitions. Organised by The Scottish Government, it was great to hear perspectives from UK Heads of Mission for Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei.
