Edinburgh BCorp 500
Non-profit Organizations
Supporting 500 local businesses on their journey to becoming certified B Corps by 2030. An Edinburgh Can B initiative
About us
As we deal with the consequences of a global pandemic and face up to the challenge of the climate crisis, it can feel like running a business is nothing but one big headache after another. But if there’s one thing that we’ve learned over the past couple of years, it’s that businesses that are driven by a strong sense of purpose are much more likely to flourish in a changing and challenging world than businesses that focus purely on money. In fact, 63% more likely. That’s why more and more businesses are now looking beyond profit as the only measure of success. It makes perfect business sense. In fact, we’d argue that most businesses already do this to some extent or another. That’s because business leaders, like you, care. You care about your business and the impact you have on your city and the world around you. You want to succeed by doing the right thing. But, if you’re anything like us, you’re not always sure what that right thing is. And you often find the world of sustainability a bit overwhelming. There’s lots of great advice out there, but what’s right for you and your business? Our mission is to help fellow Edinburgh business use the B Impact Assessment to figure that out. Our aim is to help you grow your business with purpose. To help you better understand the impact your business is having on our city and guide us all towards an Edinburgh that is thriving, welcoming, fair and pioneering. Join us and grow your business for good!

📣 Productive morning at the Scotland Office yesterday with Secretary of State for Scotland, Ian Murray MP! We had the opportunity to share the vision and progress of Edinburgh B Corp 500 and discuss Edinburgh's growing leadership in purpose-driven business. Alongside Edinburgh Can B, we explored how the B Corp movement is helping to shape a more sustainable and equitable business landscape in our city. Fantastic to see such engagement and support at government level for making Edinburgh a leading city for businesses that balance purpose and profit. #BCorp #EdinburghBCorp500 #BusinessForGood #Sustainability #BCorpEdinburgh #PurposeDrivenBusiness

📣 Another energizing day with our Edinburgh B Corp 500 cohort at the stunning The Scotch Whisky Experience. A huge thank you to our wonderful hosts and to Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce for their continued partnership in driving business as a force for good in our city. Last week we dove deep into three core impact areas of the B Impact Assessment, with a distinctly Edinburgh flavor: 🤝 Community Impact: Drawing inspiration from local B Corps TBCo and Stag Barbers, while exploring impactful partnerships with @The OneCity Trust and Volunteer Edinburgh to strengthen our city's social fabric. 👥 Worker Impact: Discussing best practices in employee engagement and support, with great examples from Edinburgh Living Wage Scotland and local B Corps like Stoane Lighting, Green Element and Muckle Media - a certified B-Corp. 🌱 Environmental Impact: Mapping our environmental impacts and opportunities, connecting to vital city initiatives like the Edinburgh Climate Compact and Net Zero Edinburgh. The room was buzzing with knowledge-sharing and collaboration as participants connected their business practices to these frameworks. It's inspiring to see Edinburgh organizations coming together to redefine success in business! #BCorp #Edinburgh #BusinessForGood #Sustainability #CommunityImpact #EdinburghBusiness #BCorpEdinburgh

At our workshop last week we talked briefly about the new B Corp Standards coming up, more details here....
Exciting changes lie ahead for B Corp Certification, with new, minimum standards set to be published in early 2025. In an interview with Forbes, B Lab UK's executive director, Chris Turner shared that the new standards will raise the bar for businesses seeking certification, with a focus on human rights, environmental impact and fair work. “B Corps are where change really happens. It is less of a tick-box certification, and more about a different way of thinking,” Rosie Brown, co-chief executive of #BCorp COOK Trading Ltd highlighted. With 9,000 certified B Corps globally and over 2,000 in the UK alone, the movement is growing faster than ever. The new standards reinforce that B Lab’s mission is not just to certify B Corps—it’s to collectively reshape the economic system into one that is inclusive, equitable and regenerative. 🌎 Find out more about how these changes will shape the future of B Corp certifications. For anyone starting on their B Corp journey, choosing the right track is super important....
Choosing the Right Track on Your B Corp Journey 🛤️ Last week at our first Edinburgh B Corp 500 workshop, we tackled the important task of setting up on the B Impact Assessment (BIA) and picking the right track. Let's look at why this matters! 💡 Why is choosing the right track important? 🤔 The track you select shapes the questions you'll answer, making sure they fit your company's profile. The BIA has different versions (or 'tracks') based on: Your company size 🏢 Your industry sector 🛠️ Your geographic market 🌍 Getting these details right is important because it affects: - How relevant the questions are to you - The way your impact is measured - How your score compares to similar businesses Remember, accuracy is your friend here! 🎯 The right track makes your assessment more meaningful and your B Corp journey smoother. Check out the B Impact Assessment Support Portal article on choosing the right track: https://lnkd.in/ev4jPAgU #EdinburghBCorp500 #BCorp #BImpactAssessment #SustainableBusiness
