EAUC 2024 wrapped 🎁 Our final social media post of the year is a festive, reflective wrap up of 2024! We'd love to know your sustainability highlights of the year too. Let us know in the comments below👇 Highlights for us included: - Delivering not one but two conferences, bringing together over 400 delegates in post-16 education. - Engaging over 1,700 people through 75 community of practice forums, meetings and training sessions. - Working with members to secure explicit reference to sustainability in the UK Quality Code for Higher Education for the first time. - Securing funding from the Department for Education for Climate Ambassadors in partnership with STEM Learning UK and the University of Reading. - Awarding 70 Green Gown Awards to projects in 14 countries. - Working with Wellcome Trust, UK Research and Innovation others to launch the Environmental Sustainability Concordat. - Launching a suite of new resources, guides and research, including the updated Climate Action Roadmap for colleges. - Launching our new strategy and celebrating our 20th Anniversary! A big thank you for all your contributions and helping to make this happen. Please note the EAUC office will close on 24 December and reopen on 3 January. Our Senior Member Engagement Officer, Claire Mitchell, managed to fit in a final event before Christmas yesterday, attending the SUSTAIN Midlands Sustainability UnConference in Birmingham. It's been a great morning with the Scottish Association of University Directors of Estates hearing all things campus development and operations, and to share the latest on sustainability in the Scottish sector from EAUC. Sadly caught a pic of the worst slide, but a big shout out to Cullen Warnock for his presentation on the Abertay University heat district network proposal. I've heard Cullen present on his work twice and it has completely opened my eyes to what I thought heat networks are: from 'just' technical, engineering projects to an opportunity for long-term social advancement of places. Pipes that transport heat can make positive changes for generations. Thank you Eleanor Magennis for the invite! Always a great learning opportunity to join.

🔍 New research! Colleges play an important role in equipping people and communities with the skills and knowledge needed to address today’s social and environmental challenges.   Our new research has explored how colleges in Scotland currently address sustainability in learning and teaching, revealing that:   🍃 Whilst there are inspiring examples of learning for sustainability and a clear interest from both staff and students, initiatives are often isolated and lack consistent support and face a variety of barriers, but also opportunities.   ✏️ To truly make a difference, college management, funders, government and quality assurance bodies need to explicitly recognise, prioritise and better support staff and students to learn for sustainability.   🤝🏽 Collaboration between institutions, organisations and industry, plus adequate funding and further research will be important factors in enabling progress.   Read more in the report: https://lnkd.in/ef-y-zwJ

We are delighted to be hosting the EAUC webinar 'Championing Sustainability with the Next Generation' 💻 This webinar, which is open to EAUC members, discusses the topic of engaging young people in sustainability, linking with COP29 and celebrating winners of this year’s Green Gown Awards 🏆💚   The session will take place online from 1pm to 2pm this coming Monday 2 December.
