  • New tenants are settling into council-developed business units at Haddington Retail Park – bringing a diverse range of new industry to the area.   The nine new units at the park, just off the Oaktree junction, were funded by East Lothian Council and built to a high specification with their carbon footprint and energy efficiency in mind, through renewable sources and insulation materials. The heating in each unit is provided by air source heat pumps and tenants benefit from photovoltaic panels and electric vehicle charging points. Remaining units are being marketed and managed by the council’s Estates Team and interested parties should email [email protected] Councillor John McMillan, East Lothian Council Spokesperson for Economic Development, met some of the new tenants on site. He said: “I am really pleased that the council has been able to provide such high-quality space for businesses to start up and grow, in the heart of East Lothian. The range of business that have moved in so far is quite remarkable and it was fantastic to be able to meet and talk with some of them on site. It’s clear that they will be an asset to East Lothian, using local suppliers and providing job and training opportunities.” The units have planning consent for Class Four Use (office, light industrial and research and development). Each unit has a main workshop area with a separate kitchen/office area and accessible WC and they come with both allocated parking and shared visitor parking. https://lnkd.in/ehaZ7Mrv

  • A ‘topping out’ ceremony has taken place to mark the completion of the roof and structure of the Edinburgh Innovation Hub, which will be a nationally significant centre for innovation driven business growth and to create new high value employment. The Edinburgh Innovation Hub is a joint venture between East Lothian Council and Queen Margaret University (QMU). Representatives of the council, university, Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, and main contractor Heron Brothers Ltd, attended the ceremonial event on Friday (13 December). The 7,200 sqm Hub, which received planning permission last September, is expected to be completed next year. It will comprise flexible laboratory, office and fully equipped meeting and conference spaces for rent by small to medium enterprises (SMEs). The Hub will support and grow businesses driven by innovation, knowledge exchange and technology, bringing together research, industry and academia under one roof, creating opportunities for synergies and knowledge-sharing. Tenants will be able to rent flexible accommodation packages for move-in ready space, that is bespoke to their size and needs. Full-scale marketing to potential tenants will take place in the new year, in anticipation of the completion of construction in summer 2025 and there have already been a good number of expressions of interest. The venture is supported by £28.6 million from the UK Government, £1.4 million from the Scottish Government and £10 million from East Lothian Council as part of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal (ESES City Region Deal). https://lnkd.in/eVHuvkPJ The photo shows (left to right) East Lothian Council Leader, Norman Hampshire; Pamela Woodburn, Chair of the Court of Queen Margaret University; Monica Patterson, Chief Executive of East Lothian Council and Professor Richard Butt, Deputy Principal and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Queen Margaret University.
