Lucky Saint and Greene King have come together this December to support balanced drinking options across UK pubs. 🤝 December is one of the busiest months for the hospitality industry, with more customers choosing options that fit their lifestyles. That’s why we’re proud to support the new partnership between Lucky Saint and Greene King, which will see 10,000 alcohol-free beers gifted to pubgoers this December. I was honoured to represent Drinkaware at No. 10 this morning as it was announced that drink spiking will become a new criminal offence. I shared our latest research with a roundtable of industry leaders, police chiefs, and transport bosses, calling for more to be done to ensure we create a safer environment for everyone. Our research with Anglia Ruskin University estimates that 1.2 million UK adults experienced drink spiking in the past year, while 90% of spiking victims do not report incidents to the police. Spiking can happen to anyone. While women are disproportionately affected, our research shows that both men (2.1%) and women (2.3%) report being spiked in the last 12 months. It is great to have played some part in what has been a significant collaborative effort from across the system - in particular Dawn Dines from Stamp Out Spiking, Colin Mackie from Spikeaware and Helena Conibear from The Talk About Trust among many others. They have done an extraordinary job.

🚨 Drink spiking will become a new criminal offence! We’re delighted that the Government is taking action to tackle spiking. This morning, our CEO, Karen Tyrell, joined the Prime Minister at No. 10 alongside a roundtable of industry leaders, police chiefs, and transport bosses to highlight the importance of collaboration in making people and spaces safer. With our latest research with Anglia Ruskin University estimating that 1.2 million UK adults experienced drink spiking in the past 12 months, there is still much more to be done to create safer environments for everyone: ➡️ Venues and police must take every report seriously. Our research found that 90% of spiking victims don’t report incidents to the police, with many saying they ‘don’t see the point.’ When venues, the police or health care staff fail to take spiking victims seriously, it deters victims from seeking help and makes it harder to address and prevent future incidents. ➡️ Raising awareness that spiking can happen to anyone, anywhere. While women are disproportionately affected, our research shows that both men (2.1%) and women (2.3%) report being spiked in the last 12 months. ➡️ Listening to those with lived experience. It’s essential that perspectives from those with lived experience, healthcare, charities, and the hospitality sector are included, ensuring we tackle this issue together with a unified message. Today was an important step forward, but we know there’s still more work to do. 🔎 90% of drink spiking cases go unreported in the UK. New research by Drinkaware and Anglia Ruskin University, reveals that: Approximately 1.2 million UK adults experience drink spiking every year. 11% of UK adults reported being spiked at some point in their lives, with 13% of women and 9% of men. In 2023, most incidents occurred in bars (41%) and clubs (28%), but 9% were reported in private homes. Karen Tyrell, CEO of Drinkaware, said: “Drink spiking is a serious crime that can happen to anyone at any time. Tackling it requires collective responsibility between the police, businesses, local authorities charities and wider society, so that everyone knows what to do and reports of spiking are taken seriously.” Read the full report to learn more 👇 https://lnkd.in/e7Qt-kXc
