Geçtiğimiz gün (7 Kasım 2024) İstanbul Planlama Ajansı ev sahipliğinde Türkiye’de çok sevgili Ekin AL’ın düzenlediği ve dünyada 50 farklı şehirde aynı anda düzenlenen Global Donut Günü’nü birlikte kutladık. 28 çok değerli konuşmacıyla keyifli bir gün geçirdik. Portekiz Kültür Bakanı’ndan, akademisyenlere, sivil toplumdan, girişimlere birbirinden çeşitli konuların konuşulduğu ufuk açan bir gündü. Bu güzel günün gerçekleşmesinde katkısı olan Ekin AL, Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) ve Onarım Atölyesi | Regenerative Impact Space’e teşekkür ederim. #IMPACTODay2024 Highlights 🍩 Getting a Taste of the Doughnut (Economics) 🍩 Today is #GlobalDonutDay! And while it might sound like we’re talking about sweet treats, we’re actually diving into a different kind of doughnut—the one that holds the key to sustainable economies: Doughnut Economics. At IMPACTO Day, we wanted to share this powerful model with our audience in Malaysia to reimagine economic success. The model, developed by economist Kate Raworth, envisions a “safe and just space,” balancing planetary boundaries (ecological limits we shouldn’t cross) and the social foundation (minimum standards for human well-being). With seven out of nine planetary boundaries already breached, Doughnut Economics couldn’t be more relevant. Therefore, to close out IMPACTO Day, we were honored to have Erinch Sahan from the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) join us live (virtually) to share how Doughnut Economics challenges the status quo —shifting our systems from degenerative and divisive to regenerative and distributive. After his insightful introduction, he opened the floor, inviting our audience to explore how these ideas could reshape our own economic landscape. One question viewed the Doughnut through a local lens: “How can Doughnut Economics apply differently to the Global North and South?” Erinch’s response was direct: “The Global North got rich by damaging the world and continues to overshoot their fair share of planetary boundaries. Their responsibilities are far greater.” For Malaysia and the Global South, Erinch’s advice was clear: “We don’t need to import broken corporate structures. Let’s leave behind the "-isms" of the 20th century and lean into local and Indigenous knowledge to build economic models that serve our unique context.” This session was a call to question, rethink, and localise our economic practices.
