Today, Datamango’s founder and CEO, Graham, is kicking off a new project—taking on chemotherapy to tackle non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Fresh off a fight against neuroendocrine cancer, it looks like he’s not done showing us all how it’s done. 💪 Graham has been a bit quieter recently, so here we are. True to form, he’s as determined as ever. The bossman has already prepped in true Graham style: clippers out, head shaved, and grin intact. Treatment is set to run through to early next year, but we won’t be surprised if he still pops up now and then to remind us that even this kind of news can be taken with humour and a positive outlook. We’re sending our support every step of the way—and welcome anything you’d like us to share with him. Here’s to kicking cancer’s ass (again) 👊

A flurry of notifications from news outlets talking about global Windows BSOD issues taking banks, airlines, emergency services, broadcasters, and more offline and wreaking havoc with boot loops. Apparently, it's a faulty CrowdStrike driver, and there are workaround steps: 1. Boost Windows into Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Environment 2. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike 3. Locate and delete the file matching "C-00000291*.sys" 4. Boot normally More info from The Guardian: https://lnkd.in/dZjFxnCZ

Bridge the gap between academia and industry with postgraduate placements In our latest blog, David W., Chief Operating Officer at Datamango, reflects on the transformative impact of postgraduate placements on his business. From enhancing their project delivery to infusing fresh perspectives into their team, the journey with postgraduate students has been nothing short of remarkable. Why Postgraduate Placements Matter to Datamango: - Innovation Catalyst: Postgraduate placements inject cutting-edge academic knowledge into our projects, driving innovation. - Talent Development: We nurture talent by providing real-world experience, fostering skills and professional growth. - Collaborative Spirit: These placements strengthen our team dynamics, enriching our culture of agility and creativity. 🎉 Another Team Day under the belt! Last Friday, the DM team got together for a day of team building (and an excuse to talk in real life... Slack was somewhat quiet that day). What We Did: - A morning of quizzes, a treasure hunt, and a blindfolded obstacle course. - Lunchtime pizza. - An afternoon playing Blood On The Clocktower from The Pandemonium Institute. (Thank you, Matthew Overton, for being an excellent storyteller and guiding a bunch of hapless newbies through the game). What We Learned: - It is surprisingly easy to make a blindfolded obstacle course out of unused IT equipment. - Streaming DOES count towards album sales. - Over-ordering pizza isn't hard. - Playing a game where one of the main objectives is to lie to each other is surprisingly good for team building. And a lot more... Also, thanks to Chantelle Sawell for organising a great day! See you all on the next one 😄

COO David W. sums up some of our thoughts on why the traditional technical interview often falls short. They shouldn't just focus on technical skills but also spotlight the creative and collaborative spirits that drive development. We delve into: ✨The balance between technical depth and personal engagement. ✨Strategies for opening dialogue and real-world problem-solving. ✨The importance of diverse perspectives in shaping dynamic teams. Check it out!
🤔 What value is there in a technical interview? It's not just about asking questions, or posing a problem. Having conducted my fair share of interviews, I know that they should involve more dialogue—sharing stories, exploring creativity, and finding a connection. Datamango's latest blog post follows a conversation between Arran and Graham in which they discussed some of their experiences with technical interviews. From an employer's perspective, we're looking for creative problem-solving, adaptability, and inclusivity—we want people who can bring a different perspective to the team. Can we make interviewees think, 'Well, this is different'? Read it here: https://lnkd.in/evVMhSiz 👀💡 Let me know what you think.

Amen David W. Keep learning and adapting. Yesterday's visit to Solent University, where final-year students presented their Industrial Consulting Project, served as a brilliant reminder of this ethos. Our collaboration involved briefing the students to design an app that focused on the carbon footprint of transport journeys. The creativity and diverse range of solutions presented by these students were nothing short of inspirational. 🌱 This experience underscored a few pivotal lessons in software development and innovation: - The power of fresh perspectives—the students' approaches to the brief reminded us that there are countless ways to tackle a problem. - The importance of a concise brief—even with a one-page outline, the creative approaches are remarkable. - The iterative nature of development—Building a software product is a dynamic process that benefits immensely from continuous iteration and the willingness to learn from rapid prototyping. Reflecting on the fundamentals of building impactful software, let's remember the value of stepping outside our comfort zones and embracing diverse perspectives. Let's carry these lessons forward in our projects and continue to support initiatives that bridge the gap between industry and academia. 🚀 #Innovation #Sustainability #SoftwareDevelopment #EducationPartnership #ContinuousLearning
What I Learned When I Went Back To School... Yesterday, I had the genuine pleasure of attending Solent University final year students’ Industrial Consulting Project presentations with Marc Molinari. Datamango had set a brief for an app focused on the carbon footprint of transport journeys. 🌱 It’s safe to say I was impressed and was reminded of a few things... - There is DEFINITELY not just one solution to a problem - Give uni students a 1-page brief, and you’ll see some great creativity on show So, I took some time to reflect on what it takes to build a software product… It’s easy to get locked into an established thought process. What are the fundamentals? I put this together (shoutout to Whimsical for making it easy). Here are the highlights: - Gather key stakeholders' needs, priorities, and requirements - Develop a plan - Execute it and review Don’t be afraid to iterate or redefine. Fail fast. And learn. - - - - - If you liked this content, ♻️ repost this to your network And follow David W. for more.
