𝑰 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒈! Not just any song. I wrote the cheesiest and happiest Christmas song you’ve ever heard. Conceived during Covid, I’ve enjoyed it privately for years, and this year I managed to cross it off my bucket list, record it, and release it. 🤭 -Anonymously of course- I created a new email and alias, just to release it anonymously. Because, let’s face it, it is very very cheesy. But seeing it pop up on my Spotify was the happiest and most accomplished I’ve felt in a long long time. And it reminded me that 𝐈’𝐦 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐚𝐧. And I was! I played my song on repeat, danced to it and sang to it around the lab, along with my other Christmas favourites - from real artists. The point? I was happy, and that kind of happiness could only come from taking a 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 and putting it out there: I AM my biggest fan AND the biggest Christmas cheese ball on the planet. 🧀 🌎 So I decided to 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 and put the song to work for a real cause: Have you heard of our campaign in collaboration with Cancer Research UK (CRUK): "𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞 - 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞"? thisisfor.org We’re launching 1 January and we’re raising money to support translational cancer research. Today, meet one of our talented team members involved in scientific translation! 🔬 🧬 Alice is pursuing groundbreaking PhD research on kidney cancer progression, analysing tumour genetics and exploring the fascinating role of bacteria in cancer development. Her work aims to improve patient care through better risk stratification and potential new therapeutic approaches. 🔍 💡 Since joining CSEN in June 2023, She's been actively involved in organising SPARKs and events focused on venture building and venture capital, helping bridge the gap between academic research and industry applications.
