Coniston Stonecraft Limited is an Arts and Crafts company based out of The Copper House, Coniston, United Kingdom. Coniston Stonecraft have been working locally quarried stone on the slopes of Coniston Old Man for around half a century and we stick to the skills and the stone that has served us so well over the years. Use our custom Sign Designer to create your own bespoke signage made by craftspeople in beautiful Westmorland Green, or Brathay Blue / Grey Slate or perhaps creamy Baycliff Limestone. Select your stone edgings lettering and size before you buy. For all Our Products we select the finest slate and limestone for each job, combining its beautiful colours and features and we craft each piece to your requirements, no two pieces are the same yet each one is a thing of beauty that we want both you and ourselves to feel proud of. Our story is one of Graft and Craft, we work hard at producing beautiful objects from our local stone, using the skills of our forebears to reflect our pride. We have been manufacturing on the slopes of Coniston Old Man for nearly half a century, you could say we’re hefted to this landscape. We only use locally quarried stone, Westmorland sea green, Brathay blue/grey or Baycliff limestone, it’s all part of our attempt to keep our eco footprint as small as possible. We use hydro electric power from the beck running by our workshops and cool our polishers and cutters using that same beck water rather than oil. We do not use imported Brazilian or Chinese slate for 2 reasons, 1. It’s been transported halfway around the world 2. It’s not as good – on so many levels. We re a small craft company that can tell you who made each piece and which quarry the stone came from, We believe that working hard and doing the right thing will help us keep producing beautiful pieces for another 50 years. A busy couple of days for us at the copperhouse, sun shining and plenty of people wanting to experience the retail shedquarters Top Jason and Julie popped in despite Julie not wanting to, they left with an elterwater slate cheese knife, a kirkby bluegrey slate cheeseboard and this belter of an illuminith, with massive grins on their faces Next my buddy Gemma brought her King Charles spaniel for a walk, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the activity of making our slate Finally yesterday the British rope making hero that is Ian Outram came over for a chat all things craft and the problems of dealing with “the council” I’m off to meet Lorna in Kendal now #hewnandcrafted #craft #slate #buybritish #cumbria
