    Will robotic orthopedic surgeries ever achieve the same outcomes as laparoscopic robotic procedures? The other day, I was reading an article about the advantages of the da Vinci robotic system in cancer procedures. Findings were fascinating: a meta-analysis of 230 studies, published in the Annals of Surgery, examined 30-day outcomes for robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgeries. Key takeaways included: 1️⃣ Lower Postoperative Complications: Robotic surgeries had fewer complications compared to laparoscopic and open procedures. 2️⃣ Reduced Readmissions and Mortality Rates: Patients undergoing robotic surgery experienced fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates. Reflecting on this, I considered robotic surgery in orthopedics. Here too, robotic-assisted procedures show potential: ▶️ Improved Accuracy: Robotic-assisted procedures enhance implant positioning and bone cuts, potentially improving joint function. ▶️ Shorter Hospital Stays: These surgeries are linked to quicker recovery times and higher rates of home discharge. However, despite these advantages, studies in orthopedics have shown mixed results for clinical outcomes, with no clear evidence of superiority over manual techniques. Robotic surgery’s performance appears to vary significantly between soft tissues, as in cancer surgeries, and hard bones, as in orthopedics. This raises an intriguing question: Is there a Divergent Path between Soft Tissues vs. Hard Bones surgery? Do we need to redesign implants to achieve similar results, or are anatomical differences the key limiting factor? Personally, I gained valuable insights into the OmniChannel approach, learning 1️⃣ that it’s not just about sales—it covers all phases of client relationships. 2️⃣ A key takeaway was that adopting a MultiChannel approach doesn’t require a full transformation. You can start with small, incremental changes, which allow you to measure and improve processes effectively. 3️⃣ I also learned how the role of sales is evolving, becoming even more crucial within the medical device value chain.   • What impact is the MDR/IVDR having on product innovation? In the video from our recent LinkedIn Live, Bassil Akra provided an insightful analysis of the challenges MedTech innovators face when navigating European regulatory pathways. One of the most pressing issues for companies relying on innovation as a strategic driver is predictability. Unfortunately, the MDR/IVDR frameworks have introduced even greater uncertainty into the registration process for new products—and significantly higher costs. In the video Bassil shared a striking example: obtaining 510(k) clearance for a new product in the U.S. required just 6 months and cost approximately $40,000, whereas achieving CE marking in Europe took 18 months and cost €250,000.
