One of the most experienced and respected trauma surgeons in the world, Professor David Nott, has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in surgery and charitable work. A full-time NHS consultant at St. Mary's Hospital Paddington, specialising in general surgery, vascular surgery, and trauma, David Nott has volunteered to perform surgery and train surgeons in disaster and war zones, including Afghanistan, Bosnia, Iraq, Libya, Sierra Leone, Gaza, and Ukraine, over the last 25 years. His autobiography, War Doctor, became The Sunday Times bestseller in 2019 and describes many of his missions to hostile environments, in particular, Aleppo in 2013 and 2014. In 2016, his wife, Elly, set up David Nott Foundation to harness his knowledge and experience, and to bring together surgeons from across the globe to the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, where they are trained to be front line humanitarian surgeons. Where surgeons cannot come to the UK, the charity goes to them. https://bit.ly/49JuJKl

City of London Corporation reposted this
As we approach the end of 2024, and the start of the festivities, I wanted to share with you how proud I am to work with so many talented and dedicated colleagues at the City of London Corporation. Thousands of people have worked diligently, and often in complex circumstances, to deliver so many important developments that are steering us towards the goals we have set out in our new Corporate Plan. It’s a privilege to lead this multi-faceted and wide-ranging organisation – and I’m acutely aware of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes that keeps our services running day in, day out for residents, learners, workers and visitors. Over the next few weeks as many of us take a break there will be a huge number of colleagues helping those in need, getting up at the crack of dawn, and indeed working through the night. It’s to these people I am truly grateful, on both a personal and professional level, at this time of year. Which leaves me to wish you a healthy and happy festive season.
