We bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries
About us
charity: water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Since 2006, we've funded more than 171,000 water projects in 29 developing countries. When complete, these projects will provide clean, safe drinking water for more than 19.2 million people. 703 million people don’t have access to clean drinking water, that's one in ten of us. Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. The good news: there are simple solutions, from deep drilled wells to water filtration systems. With the help of 1 million+ donors and individual fundraisers, we've raised over $796M for both water and operations, forming a strong force against the water crisis. Join us!

Universally, when a donor gives a first time donation, they're only 20% likely to give a second donation. And there's only a 40% retention rate in nonprofits. That means that nonprofits are doing all of this work to get people to the donation page and to get them to give and 60% of those donors are leaving. That’s a lot of hard work wasted. Luckily I had Christa Stelzmuller on episode 69 of the Lead with Heart podcast and she shared some strategies for increasing donor engagement and retention. Christa is the chief technology officer of charity: water and with her strong focus on innovation and mission-driven work, she is a standout leader in the nonprofit sector. If you want to check that out, I’ll add the episode player below so you can tune into the full episode where we discuss leveraging technology to create a donor experience and empowering women in tech. #NonprofitFundraising #Mission #NonprofitLeadership #MissionDriven #FundraisingTips

Dirty water just got its 15 minutes of fame. “Mocha Mousse” is a beautiful color for an accent wall, but for 703 million people, water that looks like this isn’t a trend — it’s a daily reality. You can change the color of someone's future. Give today at charitywater.org.

“If we had water nearby, getting up at 4:00 a.m. and coming back at 7:00 a.m. would be history. Our daily lives as girls would change for the better.” – Berthia, prior to getting clean water This December, we want to change 50,000 lives for the better. You can join us. 100% of your gift funds clean and safe water: https://cwtr.org/3ZDlt5V.

When we talk about bringing clean water to some of the most remote locations on Earth, we’re talking about places like Thauzeni. Collecting water used to take five hours minimum, if not the whole day. But now, thanks to your support, it’s as simple as walking outside and turning on the tap. This December, you can help clean water reach more communities like Thauzeni. For a limited time, every $1 you give turns into $3 thanks to a generous family. Learn more and give today at https://cwtr.org/3ZDlt5V.

528 liters is a lot of water. But what makes this fact even more powerful is what that water means. In Uganda, community water points are transforming lives — bringing clean, safe water to thousands who used to walk miles just to collect a fraction of that amount. Every liter pumped means less time walking and more time living.

Our Director of Marketing and Communications, Whitney Bonrud chatted with Forbes and various marketing leaders to help build a new playbook for brands to better engage consumers while helping make the world a better place. To her, “People can tell when social impact initiatives are performative. At charity: water, we’re on a mission to bring clean water to every person on the planet, so we’re laser-focused on building sustainable water programs and ethical marketing campaigns that amplify the real-world impact of our work. By embedding this purpose at the heart of everything we do, we ensure that our mission isn’t just a campaign, but a way of life our brand and our community of supporters can rally behind.” Read more from these exceptional brands and can’t miss context from some of our favorite’s, Patagonia and Ben and Jerry’s.
