I am pleased to announce the publication of the first IOM - UN Migration Global Shelter and Settlements 2024–2030 Road Map. This strategic document will help us address the challenges posed by disasters, climate change, conflict, and inequality, which have displaced millions from their homes and leave millions more without adequate housing. IOM is one of the largest organizations in the sector, with shelter, housing and human settlements interventions in over 80 countries. We aim for this Road Map to increase our impact, and our capacity to influence policy, and advocate for the needs and rights of migrants, the displaced, and affected communities before and throughout all phases of crisis response. Thank you to all IOM staff, partners, and donors for their contributions. We look forward to furthering global efforts to ensure adequate housing for all. https://lnkd.in/eMUjuPnX https://lnkd.in/e9BvYF8n Global Shelter Cluster Seki Hirano Pablo Medina Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Phil Duloy USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance Nancy Doran Charles Setchell Urban-A

🚨 VACANCY ALERT 🚨: IOM - UN Migration and the Ethiopia Emergency Shelter and NFI Cluster are looking for a consultant to work on developing and implementing environmentally sustainable practices in shelter and settlement interventions. Shelter and settlement programming plays a crucial role in humanitarian response but must also uphold environmental sustainability. In Ethiopia, interventions within the shelter and non-food sector have often contributed to deforestation, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and waste pollution. These environmental impacts hinder the resilience and recovery of affected communities. Over the past four years, a substantial volume of materials, including high-carbon footprint tarpaulins, has been distributed, underscoring the urgent need for more sustainable shelter practices. To address this, the ESNFI Cluster plans to hire a consultant to develop environmentally friendly tools and practices that reduce the negative impacts of its interventions. The consultant's role will involve adapting training tools, checklists, and guidelines for the proper disposal and reuse of ESNFI items, fostering sustainable practices within the cluster. Additionally, the consultant will support the cluster in raising awareness and advocating for the integration of environmental considerations in ESNFI program implementation and will collaborate with the Environmental Working Group to strengthen overall environmental sustainability efforts. 🌍 Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 📅 Deadline to apply: 10 December 2024 🔗 For more information and to apply, visit https://lnkd.in/eFR8u4BU
