Calling all mediators in the United Kingdom. ✒️ https://lnkd.in/eBK6cU-M. You are invited to take part in the eleventh CEDR Mediation Audit 📑 This is an anonymous survey run in collaboration with the Civil Mediation Council (CMC) and is critical to understand both the challenges facing our field, but also the opportunities to grow and improve. 🗣️- Kelly Stricklin-Coutinho, Chair of Civil Mediation Council - “The CEDR Mediation Audit is a very valuable tool for all of us to better understand how mediation in the civil and commercial market is working in practice. This is a particularly important period to gather full data, in order to see whether anticipated changes in the mediation market following Churchill and the changes to the CPR are already happening. I would encourage everyone to participate in the Audit so that we can all benefit from the richest data possible.” 🗣️- Graham Massie, Director at CEDR and the Audit Author - “CEDR’s biennial Mediation Audit will provide an important update on mediators’ activity, attitudes and experience. We have recently seen a number of important developments in the legal environment in which many mediations take place, and this Audit will provide more details of what is happening on the ground – are we fully recovered from the pandemic, is activity still growing, where do mediators see the field heading, and where do they want to get to in their own careers?” ✒️ https://lnkd.in/eBK6cU-M

CEDR was delighted to partner with the Al Tamimi & Company Law Firm on Tuesday the 12th of November during Dubai Arbitration Week (DAW) to sponsor a roundtable discussion on 'Developments and Opportunities for Mediation in the UAE and GCC'. The panel was moderated by David Holloway and panellists were Wolf von Kumberg, Christine Maksoud, Laila ElShentenawi, Zaza Johnson Elsheikh, Adam Peters Tania Jarjur and Rozana Al Tayyar. The panel explored: 💡 Legal foundation for mediation in the UAE and more broadly the GCC 💡 Development of mediation in the renewable energy sector 💡 Use of mediation in the ADGM courts in Abu Dhabi and at DIAC in Dubai 💡 Blending of western forms of mediation with traditional forms of Sulh in the Middle East. The general consensus was that mediation now has a legitimate framework in the GCC and that it has garnered a lot of interest. This must now be converted into actual use by the users and the law firms. It was agreed that capacity for mediation had to continue to be built with the training of mediators, mediation advocacy training for lawyers and general knowledge building for users. Government and Institutions should be encouraged to continue to support mediation as a credible process to be included in the ADR toolkit.
