Site tours, career events, work placements, donations, volunteering, and a whole lot of Lego… Our community benefit team have had a VERY busy 2024. Their work with clients, supply chain partners, charities, schools, and colleges took them to communities across the country where their legacy will be felt for many years to come in more ways than one. We had so many great features to choose from for our top 5 initiatives of the year but we got there in the end… 🟡DYW Glasgow Construction Aware – you’ve seen so many posts on this because it’s been a great initiative to be part of. High school students from across the city region have visited CCG HQ throughout the year, learning about how our factories operate (and even getting on the tools) to learn more about the careers available to them as school leavers. 🟡The City of Edinburgh Council - CCG has been working with the Council for a number of years. Our housebuilding partnership has been transformative for communities across the region, but alongside some of Scotland's most pioneering developments, we have created a legacy of jobs and apprenticeships whilst working with some great organisations like @move on, a social enterprise which offers training and employability courses to young people seeking employment in Edinburgh. Then there is Oaklands School; for 2 years we have worked with the additional support needs school to offer their pupils a unique insight into construction with interactive sensory and activity sessions being a valuable (and fun!) experience for all age groups. 🟡West Dunbartonshire Council – no less than 18 work placements have been created across the local authority through our affordable housing projects in 2024. We have also participated in some amazing career-based events for secondary pupils of St Peter the Apostle and Clydebank High School and let us tell you…they were some really excited boys and girls looking ahead to their future in the Scottish construction industry! 🟡North Lanarkshire Council and hub South West Scotland - forming part of the 97-home Castlehill Road in Gowkthrapple, Wishaw, the Amenity House is a purpose-built community hub in the heart of the development that is designed to encourage residents, who are predominantly elderly, to socialise with their neighbours. The hair salon is VERY well utilised by the way… 🟡Finally, a lovely initiative through one of our Asset Management contracts was the upgrading of benches in Paisley. A simple yet effective way of supporting the local community, they have been much welcomed by Paisley Housing Association's tenants. Our Western Villages Site Team recently hosted students from Edinburgh College to give insight into one of Scotland's most innovative and pioneering residential developments. Located on Granton Waterfront, Western Villages comprises 444, mixed-tenure homes designed to achieve operational net zero carbon - the largest project of its kind under construction in Scotland. Delivered in partnership with The City of Edinburgh Council, it will provide 193 homes for social rent, 195 for mid-market rent, and 56 for private sale from CCG Homes Ltd upon its completion next year. Pupils undertook a tour of the masterplan, and even managed to see some of our net zero measures up close, including the bespoke energy centre comprising a zero-emissions, cASHP (combined Air-Source Heat Pump) district heating system; heating components in the properties themselves such as Heat Interface Units (HIUs), and our enhanced, PVCu triple-glazed windows - each key features of our energy strategy and approach to building performance.
