  • £1,000 Business Start-Up Bursary Launched in Causeway Coast and Glens Aspiring start-ups across the Causeway Coast and Glens region have received a significant boost with the launch of a new business start-up bursary worth up to £1,000. The initiative is part of the Causeway Coast and Glens Labour Market Partnership programme. It aims to assist 60 individuals who are not working or who are not currently in secure employment to start their own businesses. Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships create targeted employment action plans for council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work. Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Ciaran Mc Quillan, welcomed the programme, stating: “Encouraging local people to pursue self-employment is vital for the growth and prosperity of our area, particularly for those who are currently out of work. Here in the Causeway Coast and Glens, we’re fortunate to have a variety of support services for entrepreneurs, such as the Go Succeed Programme and the Explore Enterprise Support Programme. However, this initiative is unique in offering a start-up bursary specifically designed for those who are unemployed, economically inactive or in uncertain employment. I believe this Labour Market Partnership funding from the Department for Communities will really help these people to start a business and we thank the Department for their ongoing investment in our Borough.” Marc McGerty, Manager of the Causeway Coast and Glens Labour Market Partnership, highlighted the additional support available through the programme: “Alongside the bursary of up to £1,000, participants will receive access to essential advice, training, and mentoring to guide them through their business journey. Building on the success of last year’s bursary scheme, our goal is to support 60 people progressing to start their businesses and benefiting from the grant. The bursary can be used to cover a range of start-up expenses, including equipment, software, marketing materials, and operational costs. Whether the new business operates from home or a dedicated premises, and whether full-time or part-time, we can support ventures across all sectors, from crafts and childminding to construction, retail, hospitality, and delivery services.” The programme is now open for applications.
