Underwater footage from a #squid trawler ⬇️ The CatchCam camera gives fishers a clear view of their #FishingGear in action, helping them make adjustments when needed. It can also reveal the interaction of the net with the seabed, as seen in the video below. This week, we took part in the Fisheries Innovation & Sustainability Stakeholder Group meeting – and what a great event it was! From alternative fuels for #fishing vessels to 100% fish utilisation, improving fishermen's safety at sea, and creating national associations for pre-competitive collaboration, one thing was clear: the #FishingIndustry is coming together to tackle challenges head-on. Our cofounder, Tom Rossiter, stepped forward to highlight the importance of an international perspective. Seafood is the most globally traded food (MSC), and there’s huge potential in working more closely with international partners. By collaborating, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for this industry. Mike Cohen, CEO of the NFFO Services, also raised an important call for a government-level #SeafoodIndustry strategy. Right now, policies and regulations often pull in conflicting directions, leaving the industry paralysed. A joined-up approach is essential. A big thank you to Kara Brydson for putting this together. Let’s keep the conversation going!
Thanks to the seafood & maritime leaders - from different sectors, all around the UK, businesses small & large - helping FIS create conditions for innovation & real change. More details soon.

It's great to see more innovations in #SustainableFishing, and FlowMo is doing exactly that! The New Zealand company is tackling #bycatch with a smart solution: the holes you can see in the video allow undersized fish to escape alive during the tow ⬇️ Not only does this reduce discards, but it also improves catch quality. By rethinking the codend, FlowMo has created a sort of “aquarium” during the tow—letting fish swim and keeping them in top condition. Hats off to Precision Seafood Harvesting for making this happen!
A fishing innovation that lets undersized fish escape before they are landed. FloMo’s innovative design incorporates escapement holes that can be tailored to the targeted species. By doing this, undersized or juvenile fish can escape alive during the tow based on the targeted species. This delivers a better return for the Fisher on the landed catch as a higher percentage is above minimum legal size, along with better management of our oceans and their biomass.

SeaFrame wouldn’t be possible without one thing: your footage. From the calmest waters to the harshest ocean conditions, our growing library of underwater video comes from deployments all over the world. Fishers, researchers, and collaborators have shared their #CatchCam footage, helping us train #AI to identify the moments that matter most. Every frame tells a story—of gear movement, fish behaviour, and #MarineLife living below the waves. And thanks to that, we were able to work on SeaFrame, an AI-powered computer vision software that aims to make data review faster and easier. If you'd like to learn more about the project, access the full article here: https://buff.ly/41hVKCu To everyone who’s shared their footage: thank you. Together, we’re tackling some of the toughest challenges in marine monitoring. #MarineScience #UnderwaterData #MarineMonitoring Innovate UK

A big thank you to Hook & Net for sharing important news and information, especially on the topic of #FishingTechnology ⬇️ The future of #fisheries and fishing businesses relies more and more on new technology, and Hook & Net's work helps share these advancements with a wider audience.
Faced with some challenging market conditions, SN Tech is about to shut down – but its work is being carried on by a new entity, CatchCam Technologies (CCTech), founded by a group of SNTech staff with a strong commitment to carrying this forward.
Fresh start for CatchCam

Marine researchers and fishers often collect hours of underwater footage. Reviewing it all? Can sometimes take days—or even months. That’s why we worked on SeaFrame, an AI-powered computer vision software that aims to make data review faster and easier. The software automatically highlights key moments - like ground contact, gear movement or fish activity - while skipping over hours of uneventful footage. That way, you can focus on decision-making, instead of reviewing endless hours of footage. The SeaFrame project demonstrates how #AI, real-world data, and collaboration can solve big challenges in marine monitoring. At CatchCam Technologies, we understand the complexities of collecting and analysing underwater data - and are always working on better solutions. Underwater footage from #CatchCam camera deployments around the Western English Channel ⬇️ While the underwater camera is mostly used for gear monitoring, its insights span beyond that. In fact, footage like the one below enables us to see how both target and non-target species are interacting with the net. These insights are essential for fine-tuning #FishingGear, leading to more efficient operations. As for the deployment below, it was actually part of Jasmine Somerville PhD project at ExeterMarine , in collaboration with The Marine Biological Association ’s research vessel named MBA Sepia For more information about this study, access: https://buff.ly/3ZfekZd #MarineBiology #FisheriesScience #FisheriesManagement #SustainableFisheries #MarineResearch
