💜 In Memory of Brendan Grimes 💜 The Committee of Brainwaves NI is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former committee member Brendan Grimes. Brendan and his wife Colette tragically lost their daughter Emma to a brain tumour in 2016. Despite his personal loss, Brendan remained a dedicated advocate for our cause. He was an active committee member, a passionate fundraiser, and a steadfast supporter of Brainwaves NI, particularly in the Mid Ulster area. 💪💜 For years, Brendan hosted his annual fundraiser, “Emma’s Day”, which touched many hearts and made a significant difference. Sadly, due to his own health challenges, Brendan had to step down from his role a few years ago. To Colette, their children, and the entire family circle, we send our sincere condolences. Brendan’s contributions will never be forgotten, and his legacy continues to inspire us all. 🌸 #BrainwavesNI #InMemory #RememberingBrendan #CommunitySupport #EmmaDay #BrainTumourAwareness #LegacyOfLove

💜 In Loving Memory of Jack 💜 On behalf of Brainwaves NI, we send our heartfelt condolences to Mum Diane and Dad Norman on the passing of little Jack. We are deeply sorry for your loss. Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 11 months old, and his courageous journey took the family to Germany for treatment. Despite all efforts, in 2023, they were told that nothing more could be done for Jack. He was only 4 years old. We were privileged to have met Jack and his parents at the panto in 2022, where his incredible character shone brightly. ✨ Jack’s infectious spirit and the strength shown by Diane and Norman in the face of adversity touched the hearts of everyone who met them. 💖 Our thoughts are with you, Diane and Norman, during this incredibly difficult time. 🕊️ #BrainwavesNI #InLovingMemory #RememberingJack #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #ForeverInOurHearts #braintumourawareness

✨ Thank You Tesco Banbridge! ✨ On 1st November, Carol and Steve from Brainwaves NI attended Tesco Banbridge to collect an incredible £2,800 donation! 💜 This generous amount was raised in memory of Damien, a beloved colleague who sadly passed away from a brain tumour a few months ago. Damien's colleagues organised in-store collections and a sponsored walk at Gosford Park to raise funds. 🌟 A special thank you to Lynsey, the coordinator, and Damien’s brother, Patrick, who joined us to celebrate the donation. We’re also grateful to all the amazing Tesco team members who supported the cause, including Caroline, Olivia, Lauren, Rachel, Theresa, Nicola, and Gina. 🙌 This donation is a testament to the power of community and how we can all come together to make a difference. 💖 #ThankYou #TescoBanbridge #BrainwavesNI #FundraisingHeroes #CommunitySupport #TogetherForACure #CharityEvent #EveryLittleHelps

🎉 Brainwaves NI 30th Annual General Meeting Recap 🎉 📅 Brainwaves NI held its 30th Annual General Meeting on 5th November at 7pm, in the Europa Hotel, Belfast. We were delighted with the number of members who attended, and undoubtedly it was the biggest AGM in the memory of the committee members! 🙌💜 👨🔬 The meeting was attended by Professor Karen McCloskey, Deputy Director of the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research, Queen’s University, who introduced our three PhD students: Daniel Crummey, Tom McGirr, and Malachy McIvor. We were also joined by Dr Leanne Bradley, Post-Doctoral Researcher from the PGJCCR. 🧠🔬 👋 Chairperson Colin McMillan welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. He reported that the charity had its best fundraising year ever and was thrilled with the support from members and fundraisers. 🎉 He gave brief reports on the sponsored walk in Gosford Forest Park, a meeting with MLAs at Stormont, and the 30th Anniversary Weekend at La Mon Hotel. 🥾🏞️🏛️ 📊 This was followed by the Treasurer’s Report from Steve Harris, who provided details of the figures for the financial year ending 31st August 2024. 💹 🧑🎓 Professor Karen McCloskey then introduced the three Brainwaves NI PhD Students, who reported on their research projects and plans for the second year of their PhDs. Daniel, Tom, and Malachy successfully managed to present complex scientific data in lay terms—no small feat! 👏 👩🔬 Dr Leanne Bradley then presented her plans to involve patients in research through workshops, which will be progressed in 2025. 🤝✨ 📝 The presentations were followed by the election of the committee and AOB, after which tea and coffee were served. ☕🍰 #BrainwavesNI #AGM2024 #30thAnniversary #BrainCancerResearch #EuropaHotel #CommunitySupport #CharityEvent #ResearchMatters #TogetherForACure #ThankYou

🔬 Our Research: Driving Progress in Brain Cancer Treatment At Brainwaves NI, we are committed to making a difference in the fight against brain cancer. Over the last 10-15 years, advancements in brain cancer treatment have been limited, which is why research is absolutely essential to change the future for those affected by this devastating disease. Through the dedicated support of our community, we are proud to fund crucial research at Queen’s University Belfast. This partnership allows us to support innovative studies, providing researchers with the resources they need to explore new treatments and improve outcomes for brain cancer patients. In recent years, our fundraising efforts have raised over £500,000 for this life-saving work. Every donation helps bring us closer to breakthroughs that could change countless lives. But our work is far from over. Continued support is needed to push the boundaries of what’s possible in brain cancer treatment. Together, we can drive meaningful progress and offer hope to patients and their families. 💜 🌐 To learn more about our mission, the research we support, and how you can get involved, visit www.brainwaves-ni.org. #BrainwavesNI #BrainCancerResearch #QueensUniversityBelfast #FundingHope #SupportResearch #BrainTumourAwareness #TogetherForACure #ResearchMatters #MakeADifference

📢 Brainwaves NI at Stormont: Advocating for Brain Tumour Patients Brainwaves NI and Brain Tumour Research UK were honoured to present to MLAs at Stormont as part of our continued advocacy for those in Northern Ireland facing a brain tumour diagnosis. 💜 With the generous sponsorship of Cara Hunter MLA, who has her own experience with a pituitary tumour, we were able to shed light on the challenges faced by brain tumour patients and their families. We extend special thanks to Health Minister Mike Nesbitt for his support and engagement. Two of our brave members—a mother and daughter—shared their moving experience of navigating a brain tumour diagnosis at just 16, highlighting the critical need for support and understanding. We also welcomed our three PhD students—Daniel Crummey, Tom McGirr, and Malachy McIvor—along with their supervisors from Queen’s University’s Patrick G. Johnston Centre for Cancer Research. Their research, funded by Brainwaves NI, is a vital part of our mission to advance understanding and treatment of brain tumours. This meeting was a crucial step in ensuring that brain tumour awareness remains a priority in healthcare discussions in Northern Ireland. Only 1% of the national cancer research budget is allocated to brain cancer, underscoring the urgent need for greater government funding for research and support services. Together, we’re raising our voices to drive change. Every effort brings us closer to a brighter future for those affected by brain tumours. #BrainwavesNI #Stormont #BrainTumourAwareness #Advocacy #CancerResearch #NorthernIreland #BrainTumourResearch #HealthcareSupport
