Waddle on earth is that?! 🐧 Beachgoers in Western Australia were stunned when a 1-metre-tall adult Antarctic Emperor Penguin emerged from the water—the longest journey ever recorded for the species! Researchers are puzzled as to how the penguin ended up so far from home. Penguin expert Belinda Cannell explained that while penguins often follow currents in search of food, these kinds of currents don’t reach Australia. The penguin was malnourished when discovered and is now in the care of wildlife carers, and will be released once fully recovered from its epic journey! 📸 Emperor Penguins by Michel Viard and Snowdrop Images #penguin #emperorpenguin #wildlife #birds #birdlifeoz #birdlifeaustralia #nature

Did you know the Angat Watershed in the Philippines faces serious forest degradation? 🌳 The watershed supports the lowland forests, and there are recent records of many threatened and restricted-range birds of the Luzon Endemic Bird Area. 🦅 Our planet’s habitats are vital and home to thousands of unique species. Yet, human activities are destroying and degrading these Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) and Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) around the world.🌏 Only 2/3 of ‘areas of particular importance for biodiversity’ are fully protected. Saving these vital refuges is a never-ending battle. We cannot do this alone. We need your help to protect these habitats under threat, and the birds that depend on them. 🌳 Double your impact today. Thanks to a generous donor, every £/$/€ will be matched up to £10,000, helping us scale up vital conservation work.🐦 Support KBAs here 👉 https://lnkd.in/efrptHvv #BirdLifeInternational #HabitatsforHope #Habitats #KBAs #Biodiversity #IBAs #Conservation #BirdLifeWinterAppeal Key Biodiversity Areas

What do we need to know? 🌎 The buzz of COP16 has ended and the Spokesbirds have a few things to highlight. 🐦 “The world is not moving at the pace and scale needed. Nature needs more than a compromise. Unless something shifts, when we meet again in Armenia in 2026 the scale of the challenge will only be bigger. These outcomes are too little, but it's not yet too late.” - Martin Harper, CEO BirdLife International 📝🕊 Read more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eFX66Pdq #COP16Colombia #BirdLifeInternational #Biodiversity #NaturePositive #Conservation
