    I got a lovely message from someone this past week. They've given me permission to anonymously share it: "Frances, I just wanted to let you know, that you're doing a fab job with the webinars. The clear and concrete language, your honesty and authenticity is amazing and helps with being open and curious. Especially from a place of uncertainty. I will finish the APD with the AoEC - The Academy of Executive Coaching next spring and the first thing I'll do after is to sign up to the BBB community." If you yourself are in a bit of an uncertain spot as to what to do next with your coaching business, I do hope to see you tomorrow, Tuesday 17th Dec at 12 noon GMT, for the Better Bolder Braver "Open Day", which I hope will feel a bit like one of the aforementioned workshops insofar as it will be a concrete, honest and authentic place to learn what being a member of the community feels like and delivers.   • In his blog post of today, Seth invites us to be... "Better at being better In most competitive markets, when an organization offers a new benefit, others will quickly move to match it. This means that it’s hard to justify the hard work of creating something better, because it’s just going to become a new standard. It doesn’t pay for a credit card company to invest in customer service, the thinking goes, because that won’t pay for itself, it’ll just raise costs for the leader and for all of its competitors. That’s how the race to the bottom begins. Perhaps it pays to simply focus on being better at making a profit, or being better at getting new customers, or being better at making the stock price go up. These proxies push short-term thinking and aren’t resilient. What truly changes the game is when an organization decides to commit to being better at being better.     It's not all about size... it's what you are doing with it... This person invited me to connect. I accepted. They then sent me a message to say, "Thank you for accepting my connection request. Looking forward to learning more about you." I responded with, "No probs. How can I help?" (since it wasn't obvious a connection... given their profile "strap line"). I prefer to ask, and I am not sure who would be inclined to respond to this kind of thing with a load of info about themselves anyway. Despite what I do, and who I am for, being - I think - clear from my Linkedin profile (and in turn my website), they left me a voice note saying something to the effect of "I have no idea what you do and I am not looking for help". So I responded to say "Thanks for your VM. You invited me to connect so let’s start there… what interested you to be connected?" Their response below, I thought I would share with you so as to make an example of what is going on widely on social media.... People connecting with people for no reason other than to clock up their follower numbers. Because apparently that is impressive. In this case, it is not only a case of not "over-analysing" the invitation to me but one of not analysing it at all, I suspect. This person is proud about the amount of connections they make, and about not needing any help. I couldn't possibly comment on how this might be seen as a metaphor for something... I won't be answering them again directly, but in answer to their question as to why I accepted, it was in good faith... because most of the people who invite me to connect are well-meaning people-helpers - who want to put themselves out there with greater confidence, clarity and joy and do good in the world... with whom my content resonates. "We are not for everyone" as Seth Godin says... "and that's ok". This person is not for me and I am not for them. I wish them well. If you too want to step out of the way of anyone "mentoring solopreneurs" for whom a whopping great big (and probably quite unrealistic and arguably unnecessary) monthly financial goal is a leading hook, please feel free to connect with me! P.S. You don't NEED Linkedin Premium either, in my humble opinion. It's just about being clearer in yourself, in your message and about who you want to surround yourself with. The rest flows from there...
