Digital Mapping and Transport Data Solutions. Transforming Travel Time Analysis.

About us

Basemap were founded in 2000, specialising as a transport consultancy. Since 2013 Basemap have been leaders in transport solutions supporting over 2000 customers across our product suite. EVR, is our fast and intelligent route optimisation software powered by AI, to predict ranges for Electric Vehicles and Internal Combustible Engines. All you need are addresses and our system generates a routing by processing 10 different variables including; wind speed, storage, temperature, road gradient for the most efficient journey. This is available on our web app (https://app.evrouting.com) and API. Basemap have three products alongside EVR. TRACC is a multimodal travel time analysis tool used to accurately route via different modes to measure access. DataCutter allows large datasets to be cut up via an intuitive interface and Highways Analyst allows users to process large amounts of GPS data to calculate congestion on Britain's roads. Basemap also provides detailed transportation datasets such as the UK's most accurate Speed Limit database and average speed data, also through contracts with the central government provides data services that manage the UK's public transport data. Why Basemap? We… • provide essential evidence for funding bids • have revoked decisions to close NHS sites • analyse efficiency of bus networks • assess parking permit applications • discover where slow speeds/pinch points are on your network • implement traffic enforcement schemes With an in-depth knowledge of OS products, Basemap’s solutions make use of detailed highway networks and address datasets to provide detailed analysis with the best available data. Basemap’s industry-leading products include: • TRACC – Accurate, multi-modal travel time analysis • EVR - Accurate routing for Electric Vehicles to enable efficient dispatching of mixed-use fleets • Highways Analyst – Detailed traffic data visualisation • Datacutter – Easy access to the right mapping data

  • Day 30 of the #30DayMapChallenge: The Final Map! 🌍🗺️ What better way to conclude this incredible journey than by mapping all the locations we’ve explored over the past 30 days? From across the globe to right here in the UK, it’s been an amazing month of discovery, collaboration, and creativity. We’ve delved into new datasets, showcased innovative tools, and tackled a variety of themes. Highlights include: - The collaboration map sparking discussions about favourite UK holiday spots. - Two maps exploring the Bee Network in Manchester, showing how the operator landscape has changed and access has evolved over 20 years. - Fun challenges like flipping city projections or using data to map EV performance across temperatures. Thank you to everyone who followed along and engaged with our maps. Here’s to another year of mapping inspiration! #MapChallenge #GIS #Cartography #DataVisualisation #UrbanPlanning

  • Day 29 of the #30DayMapChallenge: Overture! 🌍🚴 For today’s challenge, we explored data from the new open-source Overture Maps Foundation network, set to rival OpenStreetMap and backed by big names like Amazon, Meta, TomTom, and Microsoft. We downloaded local data for Guildford and used TRACC to map how far you could cycle within 15 minutes from the rail station. The results? Fascinating insights, including the fact that our office is just an 11-minute cycle away! This demonstrates the potential of Overture data for real-world applications and how easy it can be used in TRACC. #MapChallenge #GIS #Overture #Cycling #UrbanPlanning

  • Day 28 of the #30DayMapChallenge: The Blue Planet! 🌊🗺️ We explored the Shrewsbury masterplan, which aims to revitalise its waterways—once the primary mode of transporting people and goods in the 19th century. With approximately 3,200km of navigable rivers and canals, the UK has one of the densest inland waterway networks in the world. It will be exciting to see how access improves with the introduction of the water taxi, reconnecting the community to this historic mode of travel. #MapChallenge #GIS #UrbanPlanning #Waterways #Sustainability

  • Day 27 of the #30DayMapChallenge: Micro Mapping! 🗺️🚶♂️ For this challenge, we focused on Birmingham New Street station, mapping journey times in seconds from Platform 1a. Whether it’s exiting the building, connecting to another platform, or grabbing a cheeky coffee, our map accounts for all barriers in the station. Using TRACC, we generated walking times at a micro level and overlaid the results onto Network Rail 's station map, creating a detailed visualisation of accessibility within the station. #MapChallenge #GIS #MicroMapping #PublicTransport #UrbanPlanning

  • Thanks for playing along with our #30DayMapChallenge: Projections! 🌍🗺️ We had a lot of fun flipping projections and removing labels to test your geography skills. Now it’s time for the big reveal! The four cities are: 🌏 Brisbane – sunny skies and snaking bus routes! 🍁 Vancouver – where buses meet breathtaking views. 🌆 Chicago – the Windy City with frequent transit stops. 🏰 Edinburgh – historic streets with modern bus networks. How many did you guess correctly? Let us know! #GIS #GeographyGame #MapChallenge

  • Day 26 of the #30DayMapChallenge: Projections! 🌍🗺️ We’ve had some fun with today’s theme. Using maps of four different cities from around the world, we explored the frequency of public transport services. We created thematic maps showing areas with higher frequency levels of bus services, flipped the projections so they appear the wrong way round, and removed all labels. Can you guess all four cities correctly? Drop your answers in the comments—we’ll reveal the correct answers tomorrow! #MapChallenge #GIS #Projections #GeographyGame
