Building a sustainable tomorrow

About us

At BAM, we imagine, create and enrich buildings and infrastructure across the UK & Ireland. Our vision is to build a sustainable tomorrow. We think beyond the build and focus on the bigger impact. It’s how we make the iconic buildings and infrastructure that shape our society. And that’s why we’re on a mission to make possible. Connected communities, new habitats and brighter futures. These are just some of the things we’re making possible, wherever we go. At the top of our list is always making a positive impact possible - to create a more sustainable tomorrow, for everyone. BAM. Rail passengers in the South West to benefit from more reliable railway as cliff resilience milestone is completed BAM’s work to improve resilience on the Devon cliffs between Dawlish and Holcombe to help protect the iconic coastal railway line has now been successfully completed. The work, carried out on behalf of Network Rail, began in July 2023 and involved the installation of a series of protection measures to catch any loose material and stop it from falling onto the railway below. The £37m project, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, is part of the South West Rail Resilience Programme to improve the reliability of the line between Exeter and Newton Abbot. 19,700 square metres of stainless steel netting was secured to the red cliffs above the railway in high-risk areas. Engineers reached the cliff face by abseiling down in a secure harness, where they then drilled more than 6,000 soil nails into the rocks at depths of 13 metres. Yan Sayles, senior project manager at BAM said: “BAM has a long and proud history of helping to preserve and protect the railway in Dawlish, so we’re delighted to bring another phase of this work to a close. Unfortunately, climate change is a clear and present threat to coastal communities across the UK, so we take a lot of pride in helping to improve the resilience of our infrastructure and particularly our railways.” Thanks to Network Rail for allowing us to share their fantastic video – a brilliant summary of crucial project in a spectacular location.

  • 🏫 Laying the foundations for an exceptional learning environment…   🏗️ As 2024 draws to a close, the layout and scale of the new Greystones Community College building in Wicklow, Ireland, are becoming increasingly evident, with the raft slab foundation complete and the installation of the specialist precast concrete frame underway.   🔜 Looking ahead to Q1 2025, we are preparing for the next phase of works, which includes structural steel, window installation, brickwork, and roofing.   This new school, part of Lot 6A, Department of Education – Ireland's Design and Build programme - will accommodate 1,000 pupils and feature over 50 classrooms, including specialist rooms with several designed to support students with additional educational needs.   Alasdair Henderson, Ireland Executive Director said:   “It is fantastic to see this project take shape. We are proud to support our client, the Department of Education, in delivering this important project for the Greystones Community. This initiative reflects BAM’s dedication to fostering a sustainable future and making a positive impact on the communities we engage with through our projects.” Department of Education — Ireland | Concast Precast Group

  • Community celebrates Green Bridge opening as Cross Tay Link Road Phase 2 nears completion A ‘green bridge’ spanning two sides of the newly built Cross Tay Link Road has opened to the public, marking another milestone on the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by Perth & Kinross Council. The new 34-metre-long crossing, which spans the road at Highfield Woods, provides a green corridor for local wildlife as well as a sustainable transport connection with spectacular views of the Trossachs and the Perthshire countryside. The bridge was opened by local school children alongside local councillors and artist Louise McVey, who created a ‘living bench’ sculpture for the new structure. The ‘green bridge’ forms a focal point for 12km of new active travel pathways being built by BAM alongside the Cross Tay Link Road scheme. The ambitious project will help to address traffic and congestion in centre of Perth and improve connectivity for residents across Perthshire. The project is expected to reach completion in spring 2025 with the opening of the Destiny Bridge across the River Tay. #NetZero #Biodiversity #MakingPossible

Meet our new gate guardian - a CAT D9G dozer! Retired from our fleet (a while ago - it’s older than I am) and polished up by our talented Plant team in Kill. It’s one of the rarely acknowledged pleasures of being in the contracting business - a proximity to and appreciation of the equipment that helps us deliver the work we do. And as we transition to a new generation of plant, experimenting with electrification and alternative low carbon fuels for large prime movers, it feels right that we give one of these machines pride of place at the entrance to our Kill Office in Kildare. Yes, you might think it’s a bit geeky, perhaps even a bit old-fashioned, but for those who grew up alongside these tools, who as a young girl or boy saw them and thought ‘I want one’ (you know who you are), they have a charm of their own and evoke memories and inspiration from projects in the past. The work we do makes real life better for real people, and we are proud of our profession. BAM UK & Ireland Royal BAM Group

1 in 4 of us will be affected by disability in our life time. This number increases when we consider how many of our colleagues, friends or family members may need to care for someone who is affected. As disability can be temporary, permanent, visible and invisible it’s not always easy to know how to best support someone with a disability. Here BAM’s Diversity & Inclusion specialist Alice Jennison shares her tips on how we all can create a more inclusive and accepting working environment for our colleagues with disabilities. 👉Read blog: https://orlo.uk/VrGvi #IDPD #Accesability #Inclusion #MakingPossible Royal BAM Group | Lizzie Somerfield | Xan Koster
