About us

Autistica is the UK’s leading autism research and campaigning charity. We work with autistic people to identify the issues they face and set the agenda for change. We fund ground-breaking research that proves what works and what doesn't. We use the evidence and insights from our work to advise and influence key partners to implement proven solutions that change autistic people's lives. Our 2030 Goals represent the change autistic people want to see in the world: - All autistic people will have proven support from day one - The number of autistic people in work will double - Autistic people will have proven treatments for anxiety - Public space will be more accessible for autistic and neurodivergent people - Every autistic adult will be offered a yearly, tailored health check - Attitudes to autistic people will change

  • Did you know the NHS autism assessment waiting list could fill the Lords Cricket Ground six times? 🏏 That’s an absolute sticky wicket* for autistic people and their families left waiting with no answers or support. This broken system must be changed. That’s why we’re tackling this crisis head-on, working with the government to find lasting solutions. *A term used in cricket to describe a difficult situation. #12DaysOfChristmas #NHSWaitingList

  • Which queue would you rather be in: the waiting list for an autism assessment or the line to enter Disneyland Park? We’d choose the one that doesn’t take up to five years in some areas 🏰 (Yes, some people really are waiting as long as five years for an autism assessment!) Although we’re comparing the NHS autism assessment waiting list to places and spaces, it’s crucial to remember the waiting list isn’t just a statistic. It represents countless lives waiting for answers, support, and understanding. #12DaysOfChristmas #NHSWaitingList

  • The autism waiting list would fill every seat at 11 sporting events in Madison Square Garden. We can’t say every person on the list is a sports fan, but we do know most need support. That’s why we’ve developed a detailed plan to ensure autistic people and their families get the personalised support they need from day one. Find out more in the Autistica Support Plan. • Not quite the classic 12 Days of Christmas tune we all know, but a message that’s far more urgent and important to share. The NHS autism assessment waiting list is growing at an alarming rate. Today, we highlight that it would take 12 days for everyone on the current waiting list to visit the British Museum. The waiting list isn’t just a number; it represents lives waiting for answers, support, and understanding. This is a critical issue for us and it should be for everyone.
