About us

We’ve supported volunteers in healthcare across the UK since 1949, providing over 500 organisations with the help and services they need to help others. We give our members a risk management, administrative, and education framework so that they can give to others more easily. Our network of member groups is involved with hospital services, care homes, and mental health support in different settings nationwide. They run projects for people with life-changing, long-term conditions, and they raise funds. They create community, forming links with local businesses and educational institutions and stepping in where help is needed. We’re proud to be there for them. https://linktr.ee/attendvolunteering

[ WHAT IS ATTEND ?] What exactly do we do at Attend, and who are we? It’s a question that people who encounter us for the first time often ask. First, we’re a membership organisation. We offer services to volunteer groups that operate in health and social care settings. These include specialised insurance, retail support, and other facilities. Second, we run projects staffed by teams of paid and volunteer employees. These include initiatives for brain injury rehabilitation, Long COVID, and residential home care. Third, we educate. We were the first organisation to offer volunteer management credentials recognised by bodies like the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. We continue to offer courses, consulting expertise, and access to research. And underpinning these missions, we celebrate and tell the stories of volunteers and volunteer groups across the UK. Their contributions to the health of our communities are immeasurable. • One of our brilliant case workers shared her thoughts on attending the ABIL conference hosted by Irwin Mitchell

I’m still reflecting on the powerful stories and initiatives shared at last week’s ABIL conference with Irwin Mitchell. One of the most memorable presentations was by Mark Burr, founder of Woodland Therapy in Kent. His work with ABI patients in natural settings was remarkable—showcasing beautiful creations made in the forest. It’s incredible to see how connecting with nature can ignite creativity and foster healing. Another unforgettable moment was hearing from an artist who, after experiencing an ABI, rediscovered self-expression through creative arts and therapies. Her story was a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of art in navigating life after injury. The event concluded with Eva Oddi from Headway East London, who screened their stunning short film, The Magic of Chaos. Created by ABI clients, the film captures their stories with raw honesty and creativity. Watching it left the entire room deeply moved. I encourage everyone to watch this incredible film: The Magic of Chaos - https://lnkd.in/ejhhuHYC Events like these remind us of the boundless creativity and resilience within the ABI community. I’m so grateful to have attended and gained deeper insights into these inspiring approaches so I can apply these into my work. Below is an image of one of Mark Burr’s clients’ heartfelt message on a plaque of woodwork he built, and also a notebook - a great purchase - from Headway East London! #braininjury #headway #braininjuryawareness #conference
