We were delighted to be invited to speak at a Women on Boards UK webinar focused on board effectiveness yesterday. We’ve been in conversation with Rachel Tranter, CEO of WoB, following the publication of their research earlier this year, which examined the underrepresentation of women in key leadership roles across the FTSE 250 and AIM. Click below for the full article – it is an eye-opening read. https://lnkd.in/dX74vF4x Last week, our co-global leads of Board Services, Elin Wrammerfors and Adam Saunders, teamed up with the Amrop UK board team including Tim Hammett, and our Leadership Advisory lead, Charlie Redhead to lead a powerful discussion with 85 members of WoB’s Directors’ Circle. For an hour, we debated key topics that dominate boards and their ability to be effective: 🔑 Diversity 🔑 ESG 🔑 Board Dynamics 🔑 Governance The diverse insights and expertise from this highly skilled group were truly thought-provoking, offering us valuable perspectives to enhance our approach. One thing is clear: we all share a common goal—creating more efficient boards. Thank you WoB for having us and we look forward to developing our partnership further. Shaken, not stirred: Last month’s team-building event brought us even closer together as Amrop UK took on the 007 HiddenCity Adventure. Working in teams, we took to the streets to solve the clues that would lead us to save James Bond from Spectre… no pressure 😉 Together, we weaved our way through London, experiencing landmarks in a new light, strengthening our Bonds, and learning more about each other through the adventure. Although there were a couple of missteps along the way we filled our day with laughs, teamwork and exploring the hidden parts (& pubs) of London, which culminated in a sunset dinner paired with live music and views across the Thames🌉 We are lucky to be based in such a beautiful city and are proud to say there is no better team to hit the pub with… we mean there is no better team to crack the codes and save James Bond with. Cheers to another successful summer party 🥂

Amrop UK Takes Flight 🛫 Our Industrial team Sandy Mckenzie and James Greed had an incredible visit to the Farnborough International Airshow last week! We enjoyed catching up with clients and forging new relationships, all while immersed in an atmosphere of excitement and innovation. One of the standout moments was witnessing the unveiling of cutting-edge technologies that promise to revolutionise the way we think about aviation. From electric aircraft to sustainable fuel solutions, the future of flight looks incredibly promising – and sparked insightful conversations and idea exchanges💡 But what truly set this experience apart was the spirit of teamwork and collaboration that permeated the event. It was a powerful reminder of how much we can achieve when we work together, share our knowledge, and remain curious. Our team's dedication to delivering the best industry knowledge was evident in every interaction, as we exchanged ideas and learned from the best in the business. Thank you to everyone we met at the Farnborough International Airshow – it was a true celebration of innovation, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of excellence⚡ We're already looking forward to next year's event, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for the aerospace and defence industries!

“I don’t remember the last time I just had a few hours to think and debate at a high level.” This is some feedback we received after our Industrials breakfast event hosted last week where we welcomed a diverse group of executives and board members to discuss high-level strategic issues affecting the industry. We are always blown away by the level of conversation and the takeaways from our events. The breakfast served as yet another reminder of the importance of high level discussions, “thinking time,” and the power of human connection. Here are some key takeaways from the breakfast regarding the Industrials sector - 🥐 Market Dynamics: International businesses expressed concerns about the UK market’s current climate. Meanwhile, sectors like Defence are experiencing growth, whereas building materials face significant challenges. 🥐Private Equity Trends: 2024 has started positively for PE, with a focus on improving margins rather than increasing volumes. 🥐 Artificial Intelligence: There’s a consensus that while AI is important, there is no rush to blindly invest. The industry is preferring a more measured approach to integrating AI technologies. 🥐 ESG Momentum: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors are becoming more pivotal, especially within PE, where it's increasingly seen as a board-level responsibility. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement and awareness. 🥐 The Value of Talent: The impact of high-quality leadership and team members in manufacturing and broader industrials is becoming more apparent, emphasizing the need for investment in human capital and finding the right people for the job. We are so grateful for those who attended and are already looking forward to our next breakfast event. Our question to you and your team is - How often do take a step back and just think?

ESG strategies are not one-size-fits-all At a recent consumer breakfast hosted by Amrop UK, we had an animated discussion around the challenges faced by leaders in crafting ESG strategies that mirror their unique businesses. A one-size approach can stifle impact rather than fuel it; it can also raise questions around “greenwashing” and risk straying into tick-box territory, which is both counterproductive and damaging. Here are some insights from our recent round table discussion on why it’s crucial for leaders to personalise their ESG strategies to meet both organisational and consumer needs: 🌲 Optimised Impact and Relevance 🌲 Companies struggle with creating sustainable ESG practices because they are borrowing someone else’s playbook. Each organisation thrives in its own ecosystem, complete with unique industry demands, regulatory landscapes, culture, and stakeholder expectations. For ESG policies to be authentic and make their desired impact, they need to resonate with a company’s values, mission, vision, and purpose – finding an ESG strategy which aligns with the organisation’s unique proposition and/or customer or employee base also emerged from our discussion as really important. 🌲 Strategic Employee Engagement 🌲 By prioritising ESG initiatives that resonate with their employees’ values, companies do not just contribute to the greater good; they also cultivate workplaces where employees are more satisfied, engaged, and committed. 🌲 Consumer Demand Alignment 🌲 Recent research indicates a growing trend among consumers who favour brands demonstrating a strong commitment to societal and environmental responsibilities. In today’s eco-conscious market, companies that align their ESG strategies with these values not only strengthen their customer loyalty but also distinguish themselves in a competitive landscape. Authentic ESG strategy and impact is increasingly a priority question/consideration which candidates raise with us when we approach them on a business’s behalf. However, there can be a disconnect between ESG initiatives and their commercial viability. This tension arises because, while ESG measures are crucial for sustainable development and long-term corporate health, they may not always align neatly with short-term financial goals or market expectations. There is a need for a nuanced approached to ESG strategy – one that balances ethical imperatives with commercial realities and navigates the diverse expectations of stakeholders. ESG requires ongoing, dynamic leadership - not just one-off policies. ... At Amrop UK, we focus on identifying leaders who are visionary, dedicated, adaptable and deeply committed to advancing ESG initiatives. Our commitment to exceptional leadership helps organisations excel and innovate responsibly in their ESG endeavours. One of the ways our company engages with ESG is through Tree-Nation, where every candidate interview and placement we do, a tree is planted 😎

“What’s keeping you up at night?” This question set the stage this morning at our Consumer Sector Breakfast hosted by Amrop UK. We gathered industry leaders - including chairs, chief executives, and investors from travel, leisure, private equity, retail, consumer products and services, to engage in a roundtable discussion on consumer trends and insights for 2024 and beyond. The conversation expanded to explore the significant impact of ESG on the sector and its supply chains. Some of the key insights included: The Evolving Purpose of ESG - Tailoring ESG strategies to recognise unique organisational and consumer needs. Authenticity in ESG Strategy - The critical need for genuine and transparent initiatives. The Employee Perspective – Ensuring that ESG strategies align with employees’ values and priorities. Global ESG Challenges - Addressing the uneven playing field across various regions and the differing levels of priority accorded to ESG, which vary significantly globally. The Commercial Viability of ESG – Acknowledging that only a small percentage of consumers can afford to meet the costs of truly sustainable products/services, and recognising that, whilst ESG now ranks as a key priority, investors continue to prioritise maximising financial returns. We will be expanding on each of these key points in the weeks to come. We are grateful to be able to create a space and facilitate these discussions, which enable connections and knowledge sharing between consumer leaders. A big thank you to all our attendees for their participation, great energy and generous insights. #executivesearch #thoughtleadership #businessbreakfast #roundtable #newleaders #leadershipadvisory
