How can we create deeper connections between maths and other areas? Yesterday at #SUMitAbuDhabi24, I had the pleasure of working with my colleague Dane Henegan, an open-minded teacher always ready to learn and grow. Together, we explored ways to connect #Mathematics with other subjects in a Unit of Inquiry, using the #specifiedconcepts of the Bachillerato Internacional. A special thank you to Pilar Astorga, our PYP leader at Raha International School, Gardens Campus. Her trust and support motivate us to do our best. As she always says, “Sky is the limit.” Thanks also to Peter Gilbert, our school’s Maths Coordinator, for sharing ideas and collaborating with us. As educators, we all recognise the need to adjust our teaching when students show signs of confusion. Today we attended the SUM-IT Maths Conference in Abu Dhabi, where we connected with the vibrant maths community in the UAE. It was fantastic meeting both new and familiar faces to exchange best practices in mathematics. So proud of you Maura F. for taking a leap and presenting today, you did an AMAZING job!!!👏🏾 You truly had a room full of adults having “fun with Math”! Loved that Hashmi Salan Shameer discussed Math Anxiety in her workshop, as that is something I can relate to and we see it so much in many of our students. Even got a chance to connect with former students and colleagues. Lastly so glad ALTA Education Ltd partnered with Raha International School, Khalifa City Campus to bring this conference to Abu Dhabi! Never would have imagined I would be so engaged in Math on a Saturday morning!!!
