It’s BBC Children in Need night! But we can’t let the fun – or support – stop here… As loved as Pudsey and the annual appeal is, it creates a challenge: income that’s heavily concentrated around this one night. So together with BBC Children in Need, we’ve been hard at work – to establish a year-round regular giving programme that brings ongoing support to children and communities throughout the UK. This exciting new initiative means the charity can make a deeper, lasting impact, with a more stable income stream allowing it to address growing needs. Right now, BBC Children in Need can only fund 1 in 8 organisations that ask for support. With this RG programme, we aim to change that by providing a way for supporters to make a monthly difference directly within their communities. Our #SVPChristmasAppeal campaign officially launches today! This #WorldKindnessDay, we ask you to help us keep the #DoorsOfHope open for the men, women and children who desperately need help this winter. Dealing with both the devastating loss of her husband and the betrayal of discovering her husband had built up significant debt in her name, Debbie was at an all time low. After seeking the support of our St Vincent's Leeds centre, Debbie was treated with the compassion and warmth she deserved. She received urgent support and our team worked with her mortgage company and creditors to restructure her debt. Thanks to our team, Debbie can now sustainably pay off her debts and no longer has the stress and fear of losing her home this Christmas. At the SVP, the work we do is crucial. We go above and beyond the simple gestures and give someone the time, dignity and specific support they need, no matter their situation. Pregnancy loss is a lifetime of loss. Today, we’re launching a new campaign, to help people understand the impact of pregnancy and baby loss, and how our research is here to help more families bring their baby home. When you lose a baby in pregnancy or birth, you lose the chance to make future memories with them. Families tell us that’s one of the things they grieve most. And this isn't a small or isolated problem. The scale and impact of pregnancy complications and baby loss aren't widely known, understood or talked about. But, in a recent YouGov poll, we found half of UK adults have experienced baby loss or know someone who has. Our groundbreaking research is here to change that. We have over 30 years of pregnancy research experience and evidence to prove pregnancy and birth can be safer, and more families can bring their babies home. As Baby Loss Awareness Week comes to a close, our colleague Hannah has bravely shared her own experience - reminding us how important it is for people to have support during pregnancy. At Different Kettle, we’ve been working with Tommy's - the pregnancy and baby charity - to help spread the word of their incredible work and how much baby loss affects people here in the UK. Whether it’s midwife support, information, research into complications, or campaigns for change Tommy's are making a difference to those impacted. It’s crucial that people have access to these services throughout their pregnancy journeys, through both the highs and the lows. #BLAW
It's the end of baby-loss awareness week. And I think it's important we all take the time to think of our friends, family and colleagues who may have dealt or be dealing with these moments in the dark. 1 in 2 adults in the UK have lost a baby, or know someone who has, so it's a huge issue. My pregnancy loss is certainly something I didn't talk about openly at first, that I struggled to navigate. In the end I sought counselling and found my own way to help cope going forward, by wearing two rings with the relevant birth stones that would have been. I want to use the end of this week to encourage anyone who needs it to feel they can reach out to me or to other services.
