Adarga's Ollie Carmichael shares his AI predictions for 2025 with TuringPost. “Perceptions of a US / China AI rivalry are going to reach new levels in 2025. As a result, state-of-the-art AI research will become increasingly interlinked with national security considerations. The realist reaction to the opportunities and risks afforded by cutting edge research will cause friction amongst a US research community that is ostensibly international and 'liberal' in composition. As a result, there will be a split in the community. Proprietary / open-source model dividing lines will start to emerge with those rejecting the national security consensus falling into the latter camp, whilst those who embrace it falling into the former. It wouldn't be an Adarga Christmas without an AI-themed puzzle to complete... This year Adarga and friends have been drafted in to help out Santa who has found himself in the middle of a very modern Christmas conundrum. His trusty workshop elves have been experimenting with new technology, and they’ve created an AI assistant named "ClausBot" to help Santa streamline his holiday operations. However, in order to unlock the efficiencies of ClausBot, Santa has to prove just how well he knows everyone who has ever been on his nice and naughty list. He needs your help to identify statements made by some of his star-studded gift / coal recipients over the years. These include Hollywood actors, popstars, politicians, and historical icons. ➤ Complete the crossword and unlock his top AI prediction for 2025: https://lnkd.in/eRwzdTPD ➤ The AI-extracted statements in this Christmas card were inspired by Adarga's Panoptic app. Download it to understand the different perspectives emerging from influential actors on complex global events: https://lnkd.in/e6KSUn-j #Technology #Tech #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #Software #Innovation #Christmas2024 #Puzzle

In this week's issue of Briefly we explore how Beijing is adapting to Syria's shifting political landscape. The evolving situation highlights the fragile nature of China’s foreign policy towards the Middle East and its dependence on stable partnerships to advance its Belt and Road Initiative ambitions. Adding another layer of complexity is China's concern regarding the impact of the Syrian civil war on its own national security, namely due to the presence of Uyghur fighters among rebel forces in Syria. ➤ Click here to go behind the headlines and understand the 'so what' of this evolving situation and China's shifting response to it: https://lnkd.in/eV-vGQiW ➤ Sign up to receive Adarga Briefly directly to your inbox: https://lnkd.in/gdYG3xpn Briefly combines world-class analytical expertise with the power of our AI software, designed to turn vast volumes of data into actionable insights at speed. #Geopolitics #AI

Adarga's Sam Olsen comments on China's engagement with Syria, along with U.S. power dynamics, in today's Nikkei Asia newspaper. China's strategy of engaging with the Iran-backed "axis of resistance" is under pressure following the fall of the Syrian regime, although some analysts see opportunities in the reconstruction of the war-torn Middle Eastern Country. Like many governments, China is scrambling to grasp the full ramifications of Syrian President Bashar Assad's abrupt departure from his country to seek asylum in Russia, after rebels led by a group called Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) reached the capital Damascus. As for the U.S. -- the biggest external power player in the Middle East -- incoming President Donald Trump declared on social media that Washington "should have nothing to do with [Syria]," hinting at a policy of passive global engagement in order to prioritize domestic issues. That reflects an increasingly common notion in the U.S. that "there is a little need to have much to do with the Middle East now that America is energy self-sufficient," said Sam Olsen, vice president of Adarga Research Institute in London. But Olsen cautioned against reading too much into Trump, saying a full pullout from the Middle East is unlikely due to Washington's support for Israel and the lingering threat of Iran and its nuclear weapons ambitions. Olsen said it has never been clear how much China actually wanted from its ties with Syria, though Russia's naval base in Tartus on Syria's Mediterranean coast may be of interest. He added that there could be a commercial advantage in the reconstruction of Syria, and that it is clear that "China is willing to invest in the so-called 'axis of resistance' against both Israel and its Western backers." For now, the international community awaits for clearer direction from the new leadership in Syria. The U.N. Security Council said on Monday that it would issue a statement in the coming days.
