About us

At Action for Children, we see children struggling every day. Children without a bed sleeping on the floor. Families phoning us crying because they have no money for food. But we also see the difference you can make. By donating and becoming a Secret Santa, you could give a vulnerable child the essentials of warm clothes, a hot meal, or a special present just for them.

  • There's just six day until Christmas, and becoming a Secret Santa for a vulnerable child is more important than ever. So much of what we’ve achieved this festive season has been down to a very special Headline Partner… Nationwide Building Society, we want to say a huge thank you for the continued and dedicated support. From in-branch ‘Giving Trees’ to The Big Nationwide Quiz of the Year, colleagues and members have gone above and beyond to fundraise for our Secret Santa campaign. Nationwide even doubled your donations for a set period. Together you’ve helped vulnerable children feel the magic of Christmas, and we couldn’t be more grateful! We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings for our partnership, and to continue changing the lives of vulnerable children, young people and families.

  • If you are still deciding what gifts to buy this year, why not choose to give a charity Secret Santa present? Too many UK children have never felt the magic of Christmas. Their first memories of Christmas could be going to bed hungry, being too cold to sleep, and losing all hope when Santa doesn’t come. But you can help change that - by choosing one of our charity virtual gifts and donating to our Secret Santa Christmas appeal. • Ahead of the 2024 general election, the UK’s five leading children’s charities (Action for Children, Barnardo’s, the National Children’s Bureau, NSPCC, and The Children’s Society) came together with the support of almost 200 organisations to ensure the next government would put children at the table. Throughout our campaign, we advocated for: • Ensuring politicians across government work together to improve the lives of babies, children and young people; • Putting children’s needs and voices at the heart of decision making; • Investing more of the nation’s wealth in babies, children and young people. Our impact was tangible: many of our campaign’s key asks were reflected in the parties’ manifestos, highlighting the impact of our collective action, and we amplified the voices of children and young people, taking them directly to Parliament to ensure that key political leaders are held to account. Children and young people led many of our major events, including the launch of the campaign in Parliament in January and the receptions at the Party Conferences in September, making it clear that they are committed to having a voice in the policies that matter to them. “I’m asking the Prime Minister for change. Change for a better future for every child,” said Chan, 14. The #ChildrenAtTheTable campaign comes to an end this month. We are incredibly proud of our achievements, but there is still so much to do. The Children’s Charities Coalition will continue working together to ensure good childhoods are a national priority. Children deserve a seat at the table. • Meet inspirational Harley 👋 Last week, he was invited to the ‘Together at Christmas’ Royal Carol Service at Westminster Abbey, along with his support workers Laura-Beth and Gemma. The service was hosted by our Patron – Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales. Harley, who has Down's syndrome, has achieved incredible things. He works full-time whilst volunteering at his local police force. Harley also enjoys playing sports and has taken part in the local special Olympics. On top of that, Harley has been an incredible support for his mum. Attending the concert was a chance for Harley to celebrate his achievements, as well as his 25th birthday which fell on the same day. "It was an honour to support Harley to attend the Carol Concert. He has shown such kindness and courage over the past few years. To accompany him to London was truly special and an amazing recognition of what a brilliant young man he is". Laura-Beth - Service Coordinator ❤️ A big thank you to Laura-Beth and Gemma, as well as volunteers Margaret and Sue, for going along with Harley and making it a day to remember! #RoyalCarols #TogetherAtChristmas #ActionForChildren

  • We are so proud to be teaming up with The i Paper this year. Today they launch 'Happy Childhoods', an appeal to help more children have safe and happy childhoods. The appeal will focus on our Family Support Services, and help ensure that children have a better start in life. We were chosen for the appeal due to the increasing amount of families who are struggling to put food on the table. Together, we will make a lasting difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families. #ChristmasAppeal #HappyChildhoods

  • Kindness and generosity 👉 That's what these incredible young fundraisers all have in common... We recently invited Grace, Rowan, Alice, Amelie and Sonny to our Giving Grotto in London. All in recognition of their hard work to raise funds for vulnerable children. Between them, they've raised thousands by climbing mountains, cycling for miles, making bracelets and donating presents. And we're so proud ❤️ Together, the Kind Kids have helped make a difference to vulnerable children.
