My journey into recruitment started with a simple conversation. After completing my internship at JSS Search, thanks to the 10,000 Black Interns programme, I knew this was the field for me. My colleagues, though unable to offer me a role, generously reached out to their network, leading me to my current opportunity. This job has been the hardest yet most rewarding experience. I've gained invaluable skills, my confidence has soared, and I'm constantly pushing myself to deliver high-quality work. I'm incredibly grateful for the support and guidance that led me to this exciting career path. The 10,000 Interns Foundation has launched the careers of over 7,000 Black university students and graduates across 35+ industries since 2020. By Summer 2025, we aim to empower 10,000 to embark on rewarding career journeys across all sectors – but we need your help to get there. Your support will fund 3,000 more internship opportunities, comprehensive training and mentorship, and offer financial assistance to prospective interns in need, ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to participate. About us
The 10,000 Interns Foundation is dedicated to championing underrepresented talent across UK industries, with a focus on creating equitable opportunities for Black students and graduates. Originally founded in 2020 as the 100 Black Interns initiative by Jonathan Sorrell, Michael Barrington-Hibbert, Dawid Konotey-Ahulu, and Wol Kolade, our mission is to address the underrepresentation of Black talent in the workplace and help individuals succeed in their careers. Through our paid internship programme, we aim to increase access to meaningful opportunities, while also driving change in recruitment practices to ensure they are more inclusive and equitable. We support Black talent by providing training, mentoring, and a powerful network of industry leaders, alongside using data-driven insights to create impactful interventions informed by the lived experience of Black professionals. In just four years, we have partnered with over 700 leading UK organisations, delivering 7,000 paid internship opportunities and empowering 65,000 students and graduates. Our vision is a workplace that truly reflects the diversity of talent in society, with a future where Black talent is no longer underrepresented but is at the forefront of British business. The 10,000 Interns Foundation is more than just a programme—it's a movement that is unlocking the potential of diverse talent to transform industries and drive lasting change.

After months of job searching post-masters with no luck, self-doubt crept in. I even stopped applying, wondering, "Why do I have a masters and I can't even find a job?" The only thing that kept me going was knowing I worked too hard to not be successful. Just one application could make all the difference. Landing my internship through the 10,000 Black Interns programme launched my career in a tough industry that lacks representation. Now, I participate in the early careers recruitment at my firm to prove to others who look like me that anything is possible. Growing up, I was inspired to make a difference in communities through property, but I faced challenges with limited resources. Pursuing real estate took resilience, and I pushed against barriers to carve out my own space. Driven by a vision of a better future for Africa, I co-founded Resurgence Africa, a charity supporting disabled and orphaned children. Building a charity from scratch was daunting, but the 10,000 Black Interns programme gave me the confidence and experience I needed. Today, I'm committed to using my career and charity work to uplift communities. Moving abroad alone at 18, in the midst of a global pandemic, wasn't how I envisioned starting university. But I was determined to chase my dreams. Now, four years later, and with the support of the 10,000 Black Interns programme, I'm a rising star in my field. Growing up with a chronic illness presented invisible challenges that were hard to explain. Through 10K, I've proven to myself and others that I'm capable of far more than the limitations I've encountered. Gaining experience in the corporate world as a young Black woman hasn't been easy, from facing rejection to battling self-doubt. But I'm here to show others that we deserve to make an impact and take up space, no matter the environment. This is my journey, and I'm just getting started. As a kid, organising a fundraiser for orphans in Cameroon defined me. It ignited a passion for making a difference that still burns bright. But I've learned that opportunity isn't always a given. As an international student, visa restrictions meant constantly working hard to prove my place. Despite facing exclusion, I never gave up. The 10,000 Black Interns programme connected me with my current firm, giving me the chance to prove myself and get my foot in the door. Now, I'm determined to make the most of every opportunity and create a positive impact. Growing up in a Ghanaian-British household surrounded by strong women taught me the power of resilience. Witnessing health disparities firsthand ignited my passion for women's health and equity, leading me to a career in medical research. But as a young Black woman in this field, I faced systemic biases and limited representation. Each challenge only fuelled my determination to break barriers and ensure voices like mine are heard. Thanks to the 10,000 Black Interns programme, I gained critical experience that shaped my path in academia. Now, as an Honorary Researcher, I'm driven to inspire others and advocate for inclusive health research, creating impact every step of the way. We need to talk… This International Persons with Disabilities Day, we’re talking about the powerful intersection of race and disability. At the 10,000 Interns Foundation, we’ve been dedicated to breaking barriers for Black and Disabled talent through our 10,000 Black Interns and 10,000 Able Interns programmes. Bringing these initiatives together has deepened our understanding of the unique challenges faced by those who navigate both. Although we have paused the Able Interns programme, we’re continuing to look at ways that we can champion intersectionality within the Foundation. In a thought-provoking piece, 10,000 Able Interns co-founder Sami Dar shares his perspective as a Disabled ethnic minority, the constraints of intersectionality, and how organisations can authentically address these complex realities. With a background in advanced materials and quantum chemistry, I was eager to find a career where I could apply my knowledge to make a real-world impact. The 10,000 Black Interns programme opened the door to IP Group, where I'm now an Investment Analyst, helping to scale technologies that drive societal change. But early on, I struggled to find my footing in the world of venture capital. Learning to seize disruptive opportunities with resilience was key. My internship taught me to embrace every challenge and build meaningful relationships. Now, I'm proud to contribute to positive change in the investment landscape, supporting visionary founders and driving innovation. Growing up, I was placed in bottom sets due to systemic bias, leaving me constantly fighting to prove myself and grappling with imposter syndrome. My journey reflects the unspoken struggles many of us face, defying expectations and challenging narratives. Driven to exceed limitations, I engaged in programmes supporting ethnic minorities. The 10,000 Black Interns programme gave me the opportunity to gain internship experience that led to my graduate role as a Customer Financial Risk Analyst, opening doors to a path I once thought unreachable.
