Disappointing Experience with Airtel Uganda Mobile Money Services. After shutting down my mobile money account despite using it for years without giving me any reason, I'm extremely frustrated with the service I've received from Airtel Uganda's Mobile Money department. Despite visiting not one, but TWO of their major service centers, my issues remain unresolved. As a customer, I expect timely and efficient support, especially when dealing with financial issues. I’ve emailed them, called them, messaged them via X but no help. Details of my experience: Visited Service Centers: Kingdom Kampala and Thobani Centre on Kampala Road. It is argued that acquiring a new customer can cost five times more than retaining an existing customer and increasing customer retention by 5% can increase profits from 25-95%.Organizations need to have Customer retention and loyalty plans in place.  These strategies must be designed to keep customers engaged and loyal to a brand. At the core of success of the strategy, is employees. Ways to retain customers: 1. Loyalty Programs: Reward customers for repeat purchases or interactions (e.g., points, discounts, exclusive offers).  2. Retention Marketing: Targeted campaigns to customers at risk of churning or already inactive. 3. Win-Back Programs: Reactivation campaigns for inactive or lapsed customers. 4. VIP Programs: Exclusive benefits and rewards for high-value customers. E.g. Qatar Airways Privilege Club. 5. Referral Incentives: Encourage customers to refer friends and family to your products and services. 6. Anniversary and Birthday Recognition: Special offers or rewards on significant dates. 7. Employee Empowerment: Train customer touchpoint staff to make decisions and take actions that enhance customer experiences. Incentivize outstanding performance. As Branson rightfully said in the quote above employee obsession and employee experience is the game changer in effecting a winning customer strategy. Jeffrey Bezos once said, “I constantly remind our employees to be afraid, to wake up every morning terrified. Not of our competition, but of our customers. Our customers have made our business what it is, they are the ones with whom we have a relationship, and they are the ones to whom we owe a great obligation.” Jeff here emphasize the issue of customer obsession as a way to create a competitive edge. Branson and Jeff quotes resonates with each other and coincidentally both of them lead customer centric organizations Virgin Group and Amazon which have high shareholder value. Balancing the Art of Zooming Out and Zooming In! An operations manager's role is akin to a tightrope walker balancing precariously between two high platforms. One platform represents forward-thinking, where they must envision the future, anticipate change, and plan for long-term growth. The other platform embodies tactical thinking, where they must focus on the immediate needs of the business, executing tasks efficiently, and resolving problems swiftly. While in forward-thinking mode, they're like the captain of a ship, charting the course for the next voyage, always keeping an eye on the horizon, and when in tactical-thinking mode, they're like the mechanic of a car, constantly fine-tuning the engine and fixing any breakdowns that occur. The difficulty lies in balancing these two seemingly conflicting mindsets. #CTA / #PGDA #ClassOf2024 Test 2 results were released today and I’m ecstatic with the results, some beautiful surprises and yet we should not be surprised. Lessons were learnt after Test 1 and corrective measures executed on. Some lessons that we learnt: 1. You cannot do this alone. You need warrior accountability partners. You need to find your tribe. 2. Knowledge is futile if you don’t know how to put it to use. Exam technique should be a module to be studied. It certainly paid off. 3. Be kind to yourself, not all days will be good. This is when your chosen tribe will be your support. 4. Consistency is key. Engage meaningfully and creatively. It’s not always long hours at a desk. 5. Reflection is a powerful learning aid. Don’t skip it and don’t skim over it. There’s many more learnings. This seemingly impossible mountain is now looking more and more surmountable. It can be done and it will be done.
