Bridging the Skills Gap: Addressing Mismatches in Skills Development – Reflections from the Skills Anticipation and Matching Fellowship It was a privilege to represent Wezesha Impact at the Skills Anticipation and Matching Fellowship, a transformative one-month blended program with an in-person session held in at the international Training Centre of ILO (at ITCILO)Turin. This enriching experience brought together global expertise and shared insights from countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Zimbabwe, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Moldova, Portugal, Geneva, and Saudi Arabia, showcasing innovative strategies to address labor market challenges. The fellowship delved into critical topics, including the rationale for skills anticipation and matching, advanced methodologies for skills anticipation, sectoral-level skills needs anticipation and matching, institutional mechanisms, and translating findings into actionable policies and training programs. The collaborative discussions and case studies were truly inspiring, offering practical solutions to align workforce skills with evolving market demands. My key reflection: As the Education and skills training providers, it is essential that we intentionally reflect on whether we truly equipping youth and learners with the skills needed to succeed in today’s fast-evolving labor market. The pace at which the labor market is advancing often outstrips the speed of training delivery, making it even more crucial for us to adapt and innovate. We must ensure that our programs not only align with current market demands but also anticipate future trends, empowering learners to stay ahead of the curve. A specia thank you to the exceptional facilittors from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the dedicated team at ITCILO for their invaluable guidance and support throughout the program. To Wezesha leadership, for the Trust and opportunity. I am excited to integrate these lessons into Wezesha Impact’s programming in Uganda, advancing data-driven skills development strategies that empower communities and drive sustainable growth. • Today is #WorldChildrensDay! We are thrilled to join the celebrations organised by UNICEF Uganda and its partners. We are proud to showcase innovative technology solutions developed by young people through the i-Upshift project. This year’s theme highlights the critical importance of amplifying children's voices and prioritizing their rights, health, and well-being to build a more equitable and inclusive future. Together, we are empowering young people across Uganda with the skills they need for a safe and inclusive digital future.
