Yesterday 29th was the International Day of Awareness of #Food Loss and Waste. We still lose or waste approximately 13-20% of our hard to produce food. We need to eliminate this situation and funding the process, techniques, behavioral changes, policies and legislation is key. That is why the theme this year called for financing. As Mind-Nature Institute , through our eco-foods programming we view #food as a central point in reaching our mission. As such, we pro-effort that reduces wastage and loss, implying effort that reduces on the food production pressures that have led to #defforestation, #emissions, #wetlands encroachment, excessive #water withdrawal among others. We also support initiatives that ensure a productive cycle where agro-materials are used in a #circular way, thus eliminating hunger, while at the same time facilitating #nature and #people to flourish. In our eco-foods and eco-health program focus, we are additionally eluding to the fact that #nature is still the nearest and affordable "pharmacy". Handling it well leads to less modifications needed in the plant/food system, appreciation of our indigenous foods and vegetables, and in cases possible allowing growing of our own food contributing to #food sovereignty. Take an instance of #Okra, an easily grown vegetable around East Africa whose benefits are widely researched and documented but, again, missing in most household gardens or meal combinations-implying an under appreciation of nature for #health and #nutrition. The United Nations #Summit of the Future action days kicks off today in New York. The two multi stakeholder action days seek to build momentum for the Summit days, during which the "Pact for the Future" will be finalized. The #youth are central to this first day and it makes sense, they are the #future. In our eco-youth program, we seek to support the youth as #nature sustainability agents, better positioned to shape ideas, innovation, challenge narratives and provide the needed hope, in the times of #climatechange and other crises.
