Which conference will I definitely be revisiting? It's been a few weeks, and I'm still blown away… Infoshare!😄 At the moment, I consider it one of the best tech conferences in Poland. The organizers did a great job combining substantive value for tech companies and startups with a fantastic party atmosphere. Recruiters are becoming more active. Last week, they sent 19.5K propositions on Djinni. This is the highest number since February 2023. The biggest increase was in propositions for designers, which grew by 160% compared to the previous week. Recruiters still contact marketers and salespeople first, but JavaScript follows closely (5.8%), then Python (5.16%), Project Managers (5.3%), and UI/UX specialists (3.8%).

🔍 Recently, I was searching for a new job and was attending numerous interviews for Senior Front-End Engineer positions. This had been my first time exploring job opportunities worldwide; previously, my experience had been limited to the Ukrainian market. 📊 For beginning a little bit of statistics: 📉 Conversion from application to HR call: 5-10% — Many of my applications were ignored or received an auto-response. ⏳ Duration of the hiring pipeline: from 2 weeks up to 5 months — a surprisingly lengthy process! 🤯 Number of interviews: between 3 and 7 — typically starting with an initial HR call, followed by an online or offline test assignment, several technical interviews, and one with a manager. 🥶 Worst time for candidates: winter is particularly challenging. 🛠️ Common Steps in the Hiring Process: 📞 Initial HR call. This usually involves a basic introduction to your background, technologies, and the products you've worked on. The HR checks your communication skills, values, and motivation. 🖥️ Technical screening. This might be conducted via an online platform like HackerRank or a short call with an outsourced interviewer. You typically face 1-3 tasks or verbal questions to evaluate your knowledge of JavaScript fundamentals, framework-specific tasks, or algorithms. 💻 Technical Interviews. This stage includes up to three sessions. Interviews are more challenging and dive deeper into your expertise. Usually cover JavaScript core concepts (arrays, objects, promises, DOM), framework-specific challenges (like building applications or components), and algorithms (arrays, stacks, queues, linked lists, graphs). Sometimes, you encounter tricky data transformation or iteration problems. 🙋‍♂️ Behavioral Interview. In this final stage, a manager or HR talks about your experience, strengths and weaknesses, conflict resolution, achievements, and the most challenging projects you’ve handled. 📩 After this extensive process, you receive either an offer or feedback via email or a personal call from HR. If you receive a rejection, ask when you can reapply. Overall, 15 Middle, Junior and Intern offers with 50+ interviews passed in Ukraine and foreign internships market by the end of 2021. Also, once I figured out the strategies on Intern interviews, I didn’t get rejections for Middle, Junior. In today's challenging IT market, I want to share the strategies that helped me and offer insights on how to nail any interview in Ukraine after the CV screening. Junior/Strong Junior: 🌟 Even if your CV lacks quantifiable impact, showcase your passion for the industry, your quick learning ability, and any tangible results. 📝 Identify keywords from the job description and study around those areas. 🔄 Expect home assignments and follow-up tasks beyond typical Intern interview questions. Intern/Trainee:  🚀 With zero experience, focus on showcasing pet projects, tech certificates, and your ability to answer algorithmic questions with C++/CS principles from the “list”. 🎓 Attend career tech events at universities, explore internships your peers have taken, or enroll in educational courses that can boost your job prospects. 📅 In Ukraine, use resources like dou.ua/calendar or relevant Telegram channels (listed in the resources) to find opportunities. 💡 Mastering Non-Technical Interviews: Essential Tips 💡 HR/Manager Interview:  - Align your skills and responses with the job requirements and company values. Show how your experience is applicable to the job position instead of describing the CV. - Research the company’s website to create genuine interest. We need a business development officer for our clients team. More like a 2-in-1 business developer + lead generator. In this position we would prefer to see someone who understands how to work with a distributed team where part of the developers are in Poland, part in Belarus, and front offices are in USA and the Netherlands. And now for the details. Over the last 20 years we have build an impressive client list, including names such as Fox and the New York Times, and we have a clear tech niche: Salesforce and .NET consulting in LegalTech and CRM + LOB Development. We are looking for an expert who has over 3 years of lead generation experience in US-DACH markets (or either of the two). Previously our lead generation was built primarily on referrals, and we want to expand our options and build lead generation from scratch. We expect that this person will have experience in both lead generation and BizDev. Successful candidate qualities: 1. Customer lead generation skills. Prospecting, verification, validation. 2. Skills in primary automation (selecting-configuring-starting standard tools like LinkedIn, Linked Helper, Apollo, Lemlist) 3. Experience in selecting and "deploying" a CRM (Zoho, Pipedrive, Salesforce,Hubspot, etc.). 4. Ability to build our email strategy from kick-off to nurturing 5. Understanding of the technical domain to qualify a client on Salesforce | .NET platforms would be a major advantage 6. Negotiation skills with business owners (English closer to B2 and higher). 7. Ability to use multiple sources for lead generation, not only LinkedIn + Email. Motivation: during the first quarter we offer a fixed 2000$ net salary. After this period, we will reduce the fixed part and add a percentage of 3 to 7 (from the net profit of the given project. This part of the compensation will be negotiated personally with you). This comprehensive review brings to light compensation trends, crucial for understanding our competitive landscape. Important Note: In Ukraine, it is customary to discuss monthly salaries post-tax. The figures mentioned are net amounts, after a typical 5% tax. Key Findings: 1. Gender Inequality: There's a persistent gap, with men earning $7500 vs. $5000 for women. At the same time, it should be noted that the salaries of top managers can vary significantly depending on the position. For example, one of the highest-paid positions - CTO - is predominantly held by men in Ukraine, while the least paid, HRD, is held by women. 2. Age Influence: Highest earnings are found in the 35-39 age group, with $7250 median salary. 3. Sector Impact: Leading sectors include MedTech, GameDev and AI/ML, while AR/VR shows lower earnings. 4. Company Size: Larger companies boast higher median salaries, with the largest at $7750. 5. Management Location: US-managed companies offer a higher median of $8000, versus European and Ukrainian managed companies - 6000$. 6. ‘Mission Impossible’ for a lot of Ukrainian companies nowadays is to get rid of the Russian software without much loss. For ages, these programs laid the foundation for many operational processes of our business, and we realize that switching to any new software is a long run. In order to reach a finish line, we have to join forces of three main players: the government, which should provide legislative basis for changes; Ukrainian developers that have to ensure the efficient and easy migration; and the users who have to pluck up the courage to change.  The discussion on how it all should be implemented could carry on forever.
