There was so much going on during yesterday's Inauguration Ceremony of the 11th Edition of Fundacja Liderek Biznesu Mentoring Program. 💎The discussion on the "Professions of the Future" left me with belief that AI will not replace leaders, but it can certainly strengthen them. Leaders' technological "literacy" (in Polish: alfabetyzm technologiczny) will be necessary to be present on the market and succeed. 💎In turn, after the session describing "How to take care of yourself wisely and consciously build the quality of your life", I got a new perspective on the concept of "responsibility", which we understand as a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone. But if we look at this word from the perspective of “Response-Ability", it changes its definition to having the ability to respond to everything that occurs in our life. I dug deeper into that and found this on Response-Ability (via TABATHA DAVIS): “It shows that no matter how much you try to fit in with society, if it is not in your ability then you will never have a response (no responsibility). It shows when you apply for a job in which you have no ability… then you will not have a response (no responsibility). It shows when you are in over your head, dealing with a situation in which you do not have the ability to overcome… you do not have a response (no responsibility).” Such an approach indeed helps "responsibility" not to be so much of a burden to us😊. As if that wouldn’t be enough I met some of my friends and colleagues, who have also joined this program as Mentors. Sylwia Kraska and Joanna Krzystanek, it was so nice to see you yesterday🫶.

The barriers to exporting hydrogen from Kazakhstan to Europe. On November 25, at Nazarbayev University in Astana, the “Energy in Transition – Powering Tomorrow” traveling exhibition was held, and one of the major topics discussed by energy experts was green hydrogen – hydrogen produced using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. It is unlikely a pure coincidence that the German Federal Foreign Office initiated the event. Over the past few years, Germany has shown interest in the development of the Kazakh green hydrogen sector. The most prominent green hydrogen project in Kazakhstan is currently being developed by Hyrasia One, a subsidiary of the German-Swedish energy company, Svevind. In 2021, the company announced its plans for €50 billion ($55 billion) green hydrogen project in the Mangystau Region in western Kazakhstan. It is expected that Hyrasia One will begin the production of green hydrogen in 2030, and the power plant will reach full capacity by 2032. Meanwhile, the authorities in Astana will need to find a way to export this form of renewable energy to Europe, a major energy market for Kazakhstan. Although Astana and Brussels signed a strategic partnership on the production of green hydrogen in November 2022, several challenges remain in the implementation of the deal. Using Russian gas pipeline systems for transportation of the Kazakh green hydrogen to Europe is not an option given current geopolitical circumstances. To resolve this transportation issue, the Kazakh authorities and their European partners could build hydrogen pipelines across the Caspian Sea, the Caucasus and Turkey to reach southern European countries. The problem is that building such a pipeline infrastructure is very expensive, and it remains uncertain who would be willing to fund such a project. That, however, does not mean that Kazakhstan cannot become Europe’s major green hydrogen supplier. What Astana would have to do, according to experts, is to convert the green hydrogen into green ammonia and then export it to Europe via the Middle Corridor – running through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. On the Black Sea coast, ammonia would be loaded onto ships and transported past the Bosphorus to EU members such as Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria. From there, it would be sent further north, where green hydrogen would eventually be extracted from the ammonia. In order to achieve it, however, Kazakhstan will have to work hard not only on creating the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor – connecting it with Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and further with European nations – but on increasing green electricity production. The Ukrainian IT market is no longer a place reserved for men only; it is thriving with talented women. Intelligent and ambitious, they are breaking down barriers imposed by social expectations and tackling new technical challenges. Historically, women's career choices in Ukraine were limited by gender stereotypes. However, recent statistics are very promising: according to the DOU.ua developers' salaries survey* from December 2019, 13.64% of the 7,413 technical specialists surveyed were female. The Big Survey of 2023 highlights ongoing disparities in the tech industry, with female software engineers experiencing higher rates of bias and discrimination compared to their male counterparts. This underscores the urgent need to address these systemic issues. The DOU.ua survey provides concrete data on the representation of women in IT. The high number of female IT professionals in Ukraine and the increasing proportion of women in tech roles suggest that "the success of the Ukrainian IT industry would be absolutely impossible without the amazing ladies of the industry," as noted by Anastasia Stefanuk. An #Estonian problem has found a #Latvian solution During the 1990s and early 2000s, Estonia cherished the free market like almost no other country. Trade with no barriers, little effort to save outdated industries, privatisation wherever possible and inviting foreign investment were the cures for swift modernisation and growth. These policies turned out extremely successful for Estonia, resulting in faster growth and faster change than elsewhere in the region. #Monopoly and semi-monopoly sectors however taught Estonia the limits of a free market. Railways, municipal water systems and aviation industry, being monopoly or semi-monopoly set-ups produced less favourable results for consumers and the government. Estonia’s #railways were renationalised in 2007 due to disagreements between private owners regarding obligations and pricing. #Tallinn #water, majority owned by a foreign investors had been widely accused of excessive prices that were widely considered above market value, resulting in the City of Tallinn reacquiring a majority stake by 2021. A particular failure was privatisation of national airline Estonian Air. Owned partly by Danish conglomerate private owners kept the airline small and fed passengers into Scandinavian Airlines’ networks, whereas Estonia’s neighbouring country Latvia heavily invested into their national airline Air Baltic, growing Latvia’s capital into a regional hub. Tallinn airport lost its leading position in the 1990s and by the time Estonian government realised that the country was becoming final stop on a metro line in terms of connectivity, it decided to renationalise the airline in 2010. That time turned out very unfortunate for turning things around. Estonian Air sought to build more capacity of transit passengers, but its expansionary business turned out as a colossal failure, resulting in later bankruptcy due to EU’s state aid rules. A second national airline Nordica started running a number of days after Estonian Air’s demise, but its wings got stuck in the covid crisis and the airline focused on franchise flights instead regular services from Tallinn. However, with a recent announcement Latvia’s airBaltic will be offering direct services to 17 all-year round destinations from Tallinn from summer 2025 with another 14 seasonal routes. Estonia is no longer impossible to reach from major European cities. A semi-free market failure has been solved by a semi-free market solution with Latvia’s national airline offering better connectivity from Tallinn than Estonia’s own airlines used to do.

🌟 Development of Project Management in Kazakhstan: Important Changes and Future Prospects! 🌟 We, at the MNU MIND Think and Do Tank platform, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, held a round table discussion on new legislative amendments concerning the further improvement of project management application in the country. The event took place in a hybrid format with online connection and gathered over 90 participants, including representatives from government agencies, parliamentarians, professional associations, and experts. Key points of discussion and proposed amendments: 1. Clarification of terminology: All key concepts must be clearly defined for unified interpretation. 2. Review of legislative acts: Amendments to the Entrepreneurial and Budget Codes. 3. Optimization of project activities: Elimination of excessive detailing in government agencies. 4. Support for employees: Inclusion of PMO staff in the "A" functional block – the highest hierarchy of government levels. 5. Balance of project management: Ranking of management levels between government agencies and the project management services market (Project Management Consultancy, PMC). 6. Norms and standards: Development of norms for project management services and professional standards. 7. Project-based Learning: Introduction of the project-based approach (PBL) into the education system, including kindergartens. 8. Development of project management offices: Development of Standard for PMOs with unified criteria and methodologies. Discussion outcomes: Participants recognized the relevance and importance of the draft law for improving the planning, organization, and implementation of projects in various sectors of the economy. It was proposed to make several clarifications and additions to make the draft law even more effective. Next steps: After the draft law comes into force, Kazakhstan will undergo significant transformations: • Increased efficiency: Improvement of project planning and implementation. • Unified understanding: Clear definition and application of the project-based approach. • Market development: Facilitation of the development of engineering services (PMC). • Professional growth: Enhancement of competencies of specialists in project management. These changes will create the necessary legal framework for the use of project management in the public system, which, in turn, will improve the quality of project management at all levels. We thank all participants for their contribution and active participation. Joint efforts will help us achieve high results and take a significant step forward in the development of the national project management system.
