This topic seemed to be something that is relatively interesting for people working at all different sizes and scales! 5 distinct phases as a company 'grows up'. Simply, the larger you get, the less English that is required and more junior people are hired. Its really only at the 300+ phase where a company has the structure to bring in a large number of new grads each year [one-offs can happen quicker]. ** The critical point for the English language is roughly between 20-30 employees, or when you start hiring 5+ account executives. Sales in Japan sell in Japanese and report in Japanese. But English interviews somewhere in the process. There just aren't that many english speakers in Japan and the expectations needs to change drastically around this phase, or the struggle will continue.
