As CBS‘ prepares to unspool Blue Bloods‘ final eight episodes, Tom Selleck is mulling a return to Paradise.
Years prior to Blue Bloods‘ 2010 debut, Selleck starred in Jesse Stone: Stone Cold, the first of what would be nine made-for-TV movies based on Robert B. Parker’s novels about the titular police chief of Paradise, Mass., a small New England town.
Selleck banked a half-dozen Jesse Stone films before slipping into Frank Reagan’s desk chair at 1PP, then filmed another three (that premiered in May 2011, May 2012 and October 2015). The first eight aired on CBS, and the last one was made for Hallmark Channel.
The TV-movies’ most recent, 10th-anniversary installment, 2015’s Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise, found police chief Stone agreeing to serve as a consultant on an unsolved murder case in Boston. The local cops suspected “The Boston Ripper,” a killer who was already behind bars, but Stone believed the murderer was a bit closer to home, setting him off on a surprise-filled investigation.
In addition to headlining the franchise, Selleck co-wrote many of the Jesse Stone films, including the last four. For 2007’s Jesse Stone: Sea Change, Selleck received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie — his seventh and most recent Emmy nod. (He won in 1984, for starring as Magnum, P.I.)
Speaking with TV Insider about Blue Bloods‘ imminent swan song and his post-Frank Reagan plans, Selleck nodded that another stint as Jesse Stone has a certain appeal.
“It looks like now I might have to write [a script for another movie],” he said, while noting: “It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it. Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later.”
But first, Selleck admitted, “I need to regroup” in the wake of Blue Bloods fading to black. “I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing,” he said, “I’m going to keep working.”
Short of getting more Frank Reagan, would you like to see Selleck don his PPD cap once again?
YESsssss!!! I love Jesse Stone, “Jesse”!!!
Absolutely love Jesse Stone series. Can’t wait for many more
Yes, please! No such thing as too many Jesse Stone movies!
Hey phone – Do not stop ringing!!
Oh please. We need Jesse back in the same setting, same background sound and same format as all the others. I sleep all night listening to Jesse and his people on very low volume!
Now that he’s done with BB, I’d like to see him in the Taylor Sheridan-verse, playing a mean SOB, which would be a departure for him.
Yes …more Jesse Stone
I love Blue Bloods! However, I love Jesse Stone as well. I really believe the Jesse Stone character has more stories for all of us fans. But at the same time, I would like to see Blue Bloods continue, at least on another network like Fox. Please keep Mr. Selleck working, there is no one like him that has as much class and high quality in his working talent as he does. Thank you Sir!
Yes, bring on Jesse Stone!! I loved it!
A new Jesse Stone? YEAH! YIPEE! YEEHAW!
Sure I’d like a new one.
Love to see another Jesse Stone!
Not really-love Tom Selleck – Magnum PI and Blue Bloods are my favorites, but never got into his other series. Blue Bloods has more than any others given all the other players involved. Sad to see it go, but if it is over, it is time to lay Tom to rest
Yes its a great character.
I would love to see Tom in a Jesse stone movie! Even my boyfriend watches it with me.
Please write another one for us.
Sure! If Tom is in something…then I’ll watch it.
Hey…CBS…not too late to change your mind about BB.
Sure hope to see jesse stone. Love those movies.
Yes he should do a lot more Jesse Stone movies. I love them. Would like to see as many of them as he did of Magnum.
I would love another jesse stone movie with the original supporting cast
And time to finally cast Helen Hunt as Sunny Randall (or at least a Sunny Randall-like character if they can’t get the rights).
It’s time to sunset the Blue Bloods show. While it was a good show for many years, it lost its luster in recent seasons. I like Tom Selleck and the Jesse Stone series would be a welcome reboot.
YES
Yes, I would like to see more Jessie Stone films. My wife and enjoyed all of movies.
Please make more Jesse Stone movies. My friends and I love them and we have them all. PLEASE do it.
I would love to see more of Jesse stone. Please do go down that avenue.
Donnie Walhberg can be one of his top detectives!!!
Yes on Jesse Stone. I was so disappointed that Tom Selleck was wasting his time with BB’s, that I could never bring myself to watch it. What little I saw of it during advertisements for it never made it seem interesting.
I love Jesse Stone and would welcome more visits to Paradise!!❤️
