Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks an IT Network & Telecommunications - Entry position to be responsible for ensuring CBC’s IT infrastructure is built to conform to Information Services standards and maximizes use of information technology to enrich and improve student retention and success.
The position is responsible for making sure the network and telecommunications infrastructure is planned according to our specifications, installed correctly, easily accessible, reliable, and continues to be an important asset to the College.
This position will ensure the campus network serves the needs of the College faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
The network and telecommunications infrastructure includes our L2 switches, L3 devices and wireless network equipment, as well as the telephone system.
This position designs, implements and troubleshoots specialty systems too advanced for general help desk support.
This position reports to the Assistant Director for IT Infrastructure & Security.

Primary Responsibilities Install and configure network switches, routers and firewalls; perform adds, moves and changes to the data networks; Perform routine maintenance, updates and optimizations to ensure optimal performance of network equipment; Monitor system health and uptime; Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and system issues; Monitor and configure switch Access Control Lists; Maintain documentation of campus data networks using spreadsheets and database software; Complete routine maintenance and updates to network equipment; Coordinate with campus constituents and outside vendors to address network cabling needs; Manage inventories and surplus of network equipment; Create documentation for systems and users; Coordinate system maintenance/outage windows; Install and configure wireless access points; Configure, troubleshoot and monitor wireless controllers; Monitor the health of wireless system; perform maintenance upgrades on wireless and supporting systems; Provide support for critical campus systems such as, DNS and DHCP, Palo Alto Firewall and VMWare vSphere System Support and Management; Consult with customer to implement, configure and troubleshoot network connectivity and configuration of CNC machines, Process Logical Controllers (PLCs), Automotive diagnostic, and other specialty devices; Implement and configure network-dependent building control systems in consultation with CBC facilities staff and third-party vendors; Segment devices as appropriate to maintain secure College network; Add, remove and change phone accounts as requested; Maintain functionality and integrity of E911 system; Trace wiring and install phones; Collaborate with vendor to upgrade and perform system maintenance; Monitor the health of the phone system; troubleshoot system issues independently, engaging contracted vendor support as appropriate; and Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Associate's degree in Computer Science, IT or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university; Four (4) years of work experience in a computer related field; Two (2) years of work experience in IT Infrastructure support; and Have and able to maintain a valid US driver's license and clean driving history.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university; Six (6) years of work experience in a computer related field; Four (4) years of work experience in network administration; and Two (2) years of experience in telephone system administration.
