Want to stay in and watch a show? Me too. I used to get excited to dress up and stay out late, but I won’t lie to you: Those days are over. Instead, streaming what’s new is now my idea of a good time. Heck, I even mark release dates in my calendar. What can I say? I love being a homebody.

With all of the streaming services now, it can be hard to keep up with what to watch and where to watch it. But, this month, the lineups are so good that you will want to ensure you have access to all of the platforms—or at least your friend’s passwords. These shows and movies are about to be the topic of conversation in The Everygirl’s #watercooler Slack channel, and I’ll be damned if I miss out on that.

Cancel your plans and get comfortable because it’s time to hit “Play.” Without further ado, here are some of the most anticipated shows and movies that are new on streaming this month.

Netflix

Emilia Pérez

If you haven’t seen the trailers and teasers for this film, you need to now. This film, starring Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Karla Sofía Gascón, is one of the most anticipated films of the year. It’s already in the running for countless Oscars. A Mexican lawyer (Saldaña) is offered an unusual job to help a notorious cartel boss retire and transition into living as a woman, fulfilling a long-held desire. She must help Emilia (Gascón) fake her death, all while still attempting to pursue her own happiness and leave her dead-end job. With all the praise around this film that hasn’t even been released to the public, I cannot wait to watch.

The Merry Gentlemen

I know, I know. Christmas movies already? But with these all-star castings, we had to mention a few. And Chad Michael Murray with his shirt off? Immediate yes. To save her parents’ small-town nightclub, a Broadway dancer (Britt Robertson) stages an all-male, Christmas-themed revue—and meets a guy (Chad Michael Murray) with all the right moves. The Merry Gentleman is bound to be that one yearly Netflix Christmas rom-com that pulls on your heartstrings in the same way that a Hallmark special might.

The Piano Lesson

This drama based on August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play immediately grabbed my attention. The story follows a family clash over an heirloom piano that explodes. The piano itself is a relic, carved with designs by the Charles family’s enslaved ancestor. The battle between brother (John David Washington) and sister (Danielle Deadwyler)—one hopes to sell it, the other refuses to give it up—unleashes haunting truths about how we perceive the past and who defines a family legacy.

Our Little Secret

We’re living in the Lohanaissance! Lindsay Lohan has made yet another Christmas rom-com, so of course, I’ll have to tune in to this one. Two resentful exes are forced to spend Christmas under the same roof after discovering that their current partners are siblings. To add another layer to the problem, neither of their current partners are aware of their past—so Avery (Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) will have to try to keep it a secret. This one is sure to make us laugh, and with Kristen Chenoweth playing the mother-in-law from hell, I can’t wait to watch.

Out of My Mind

Based on the best-selling novel, Out of My Mind follows Melody Brooks, a sixth grader with cerebral palsy. Melody has a quick wit and a sharp mind, but because she is non-verbal and uses a wheelchair, she is not given the same opportunities as her classmates. When a young educator notices her student’s untapped potential and Melody starts to participate in mainstream education, Melody shows that what she has to say is more important than how she says it. This beautiful story is sure to make you laugh and maybe cry—personally, I will absolutely be watching.

Blitz

In World War II London, 9-year-old George is evacuated to the countryside by his mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) to escape the bombings. Defiant and determined to return to his family, George embarks on an epic, perilous journey back home as Rita searches for him. Like the historical war dramas that have come before it, Blitz is bound to be a sobering reminder that war is never a positive thing, punctured by Ronan’s sobering performance and director Steve McQueen’s storytelling.

Cruel Intentions

Based on the original 1999 movie, this series follows step-siblings Caroline Merteuli (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess), both students at a Washington, D.C., college and the school’s Greek life royalty. After a hazing incident goes wrong, Caroline suggests that Lucien should seduce the Vice President’s daughter (Savannah Lee Smith). If he does, she’ll give him the only thing he wants—herself. Whether you’re skeptical of reboots or love to see new spins on old favorites, Cruel Intentions is bound to capture your attention.

The Day of the Jackal

If you’re an action lover, this one is perfect for you. An unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake. It’s been a while since a good action movie has graced our screens, so fingers crossed for this one.

Dune: Prophecy

Calling all sci-fi lovers who are impatiently waiting for the next Dune movie! This original series is sure to fill the Timothee Chalamet-sized hole in your heart. Ten thousand years before Paul Atreides—before they became the Bene Gesserit—a powerful sisterhood works in the shadows to guide the universe. The Harkonnen sisters must combat evil forces that threaten the future of humankind as they fight for the survival of their own among supernatural dictators, corrupt leaders, and assassins.

The Sex Lives of College Girls – Season 3

Oh, we are so back. If you somehow missed the first two seasons, The Sex Lives of College Girls centers around four 18-year-old freshmen roommates at the fictional Essex College in Vermont. Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) comes from a poor family, a stark difference from Leighton (Reneé Rapp), a wealthy legacy student. Then there’s Bela (Amrit Kaur), a sex-positive aspiring comedy writer, and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott), a soccer star whose mother happens to be a high-powered politician. Now in season 3, the girls have moved on to sophomore year. But The Sex Lives of College Girls still revolves around dating lives and the struggles of college. Including, based on the trailer, swiping right on your friend’s dad.
