The retention of control over grid dispatch and operation, particularly for high-voltage systems and strategic projects like nuclear and hydroelectric, suggests a partial approach towards deregulation. This could stifle full-scale innovation and competition. Opening up sectors like generation, distribution, and retail to private entities is a positive step; however, the success of such initiatives hinges significantly on the actual execution of these policies. Furthermore, transitioning to market-driven pricing, while beneficial for transparency, could lead to volatility that disproportionately affects smaller enterprises and end consumers, if not meticulously managed. Lastly, while the shift of the National Load Dispatch Centre's control is a move towards impartiality in grid management, ensuring that this transition doesn't disrupt energy security will be a delicate balance to maintain. In essence, the devil, as always, will be in the details of implementation and the sustained political will to enforce these changes effectively.

PTT Global Chemical (GC) Plc, the petrochemical arm of Thailand’s national oil conglomerate, is gearing up to enter the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market. The company plans to begin SAF production next year, using used cooking oil as the primary feedstock. With trial production set to start in December, GC aims to produce 500,000 liters of SAF per month, supporting the global effort to reduce carbon emissions in aviation. GC is also exploring other raw materials, such as ethanol from sugar and cassava, as potential sources for SAF. NEWS ASIA Vietnam’s Top 500 Enterprises in 2024 In 2024, Samsung Electronics Thai Nguyen Co. Ltd. leads Vietnam's enterprises, followed by Petrovietnam, Petrolimex, and Vingroup, as per the Vietnam Report JSC. Construction remains a key sector, though its revenue dipped slightly, while services saw a 13.7% revenue rise, driven by finance (23.1%). Vietnam’s GDP grew by 6.82% in the first nine months, signaling recovery. Top challenges include global instability and rising costs. Promising sectors identified are IT/telecom (noted for the digital economy), logistics, and energy, emphasizing renewable investments. To sustain growth, businesses call for tax relief, simplified regulations, improved logistics, and trade support initiatives.

On Earth Day 2024, AAIS is proud to share about the efforts of the Singapore aerospace industry in implementing solar energy, as part of Singapore's energy transition under the national Green Plan. Here are some findings from our recently released second Singapore Aerospace Industry Solar Adoption Report (2023), published in partnership with JTC Corporation. 🌞 The total installed capacity reached 42.3MWp in 2023, more than 2.1 times compared to 2020. 🌞 The number of solar installations leaped to a total of 48 as at 2023, up from the 17 in 2020. 🌞 Electricity generated by these installations is more than 30% of the grid electricity consumed by the industry. 🌞 Avoidance in carbon emissions per annum is equivalent to carbon absorbed by 888,181 mature trees.
