Technology can be a catalyst for women empowerment, enabling them to break down barriers and achieve their goals. At Microsoft, our Women in Digital Business initiative aims to equip 30,000 women entrepreneurs with essential digital skills for sustainable livelihoods. We've expanded our focus to ensure these women are prepared for an AI-driven economy with the tools and resources needed to thrive.   The impact we're creating is exemplified through the success stories of some brilliant women: Sheelu transformed her small clothing shop into a thriving business by leveraging digital payments and online marketing through Project REVIVE. Rekha, empowered by returnable grants and Microsoft’s digital productivity training, learned sewing and established a successful shop from her home. In rural Assam, Jyotshna turned her traditional weaving into a flourishing brand with the help of Antara Artisan Connect.   There is a clear need for us to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the right tools, skills, and opportunities. As economic uncertainties continue to loom over businesses everywhere, these 20 women have been entrusted to lead enterprises, investment firms and family businesses to continuous growth and stability. This list features a number of industry veterans who set precedent by becoming the first women to step into these roles at their companies. Some have taken on booming industries including EVs and server hardware production to meet growing demand, while others are running property developers and steering them through tough market conditions. Fresh from IBM’s APAC Analyst Day and IBM Think last week. My key takeaways: 👉 It’s a new IBM Consulting that is open and ecosystem driven (about time?!). IBM seems to be waking up to embracing the broader ecosystem across products and services. In a world where enterprises are trying to organize their Tech & Ops around composable platforms rather than monoliths, this augurs well 👉 IBM is taking a bold vision to disrupt the traditional #ITServices market by combining traditional talent with digital talent at scale. While it is still early days, the scale at which IBM is trying to move the needle is impressive. I know for a fact that other GSIs are driving down a similar path, and if this starts becoming mainstream, we could be in for a fundamental realignment of delivery and economic models for IT services 👉 IBM’s vision for AI and AI-led services is real with a heavy emphasis on protecting clients from the risks of AI. IBM watsonx is still at the forefront. but Watson itself is now reinvented to be an open platform with pre-configured solutions and access to other #LLMs 👉 IBM is placing a distinctive bet on quantum computing and quantum safety. At the same time, quantum is still further away than what the hype would have us believe and IBM should play a lead role in setting realistic market expectations. As often happens with breakthrough innovation, enterprises should start preparing for what needs to change in a quantum-reality (security, data management, etc.)  - this will be more important than the adoption of quantum computing itself 📌 Bottomline: IBM seems to be reinventing itself with big bets on #hybridcloud, #cybersecurity, #data, #AI, and #quantumcomputing all underpinned by the vision of a digitally-augmented global talent model. Doing this at scale, and overcoming the inertia of the past is not going to be easy - IBM needs to stick to its strategic intent and execute with discipline and speed. I’m at Eco-Business’s “Unlocking Capital for Sustainability” Summit. Again, Jessica Cheam and her team put together a thoughtful agenda and group of speakers. Ambassador Ravi Menon, Singapore's Ambassador for Climate Action and Senior Adviser (National Climate Change Secretariat), provided the opening keynote. He discussed the priorities and challenges in Asia’s transition and the consequences of inaction. With the South and Southeast Asia sub-regions being the most vulnerable to climate change, the battle against climate change will be won or lost in Asia. Ambassador Ravi highlighted that the continent accounts for over half of global greenhouse gas emissions, and energy demand is surging. To address this, the Ambassador discussed three key priorities that he was focused on, along with some challenges: Key Priorities for Asia's Transition: 1. Phase out coal: To meet Asia's growing energy needs, transition away from coal and embrace renewable energy sources. 2. Grid infrastructure: Build robust electricity grids and energy storage systems to ensure reliable access to clean energy across Asia's population centers. 3. Carbon sinks: Halt deforestation and restore peatlands and mangroves to enhance Asia's natural carbon sinks. Challenges: - Coal dependence: Asia heavily relies on coal for over one-third of its energy needs, and coal-fired power plants employ millions. - Grid connectivity: Renewable energy sources are often located far from demand centers, necessitating substantial investments in grid infrastructure. - Deforestation: Southeast Asia faces alarming deforestation rates, impacting carbon sinks and essential ecosystem services. - Financing: Asia requires at least 1.1 trillion US dollars annually for climate action, and a significant funding gap persists. I was excited to hear about several initiatives to address the above. These included: ✅ The Financing Asia's Transition Partnership (FAST-P) ✅ Carbon Credit Agreements ✅ Transition Credits Coalition (Traction) ✅ Carbon Market Integrity, Research and Development Program (Carbon Integrity SG) ✅ Climate Action Data Trust (CAT Trust) ✅ The Singapore-Asia Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance It's great to see Singapore 🇸🇬 taking a lead here. Southeast Asia has become a hotspot for climate change. The El Nino phenomenon continues to cause erratic weather and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which is projected to climb significantly over the next two decades. Given that Southeast Asia is one of the most vulnerable regions to the effects of climate change, the region must expedite its sustainable development to safeguard its future. Decarbonisation is a natural first step because it directly targets carbon emissions. However, implementing decarbonisation initiatives can be complex, especially as we struggle to understand how our industrialised societies can rapidly reduce the energy demand that has driven prosperity and wealth in the region.

Interesting session, and I am happy to have participated. It requires more collaboration from industry, SMEs, suppliers, regulators, and consumers, including individuals, not only to reduce emissions for compliance purposes but also to mitigate the challenges posed by climate change and global warming to save our planet Earth for current and future generations
